The start of a new year turns our minds to financial matters—budgets, taxes, debt reduction, or even starting a business and marketing. Check out our shelves for books and DVDs on any of these topics for step-by-step information to help you manage the money monster, all at the low, low price of…Free!

When the time comes to sell your business, get in-person advice on making the smartest selling decision possible. Join Gil Poulin, owner of BizPlanSell on topics like making your business stand out from the competition, choosing between selling on your own or using a broker, and pricing.

We’ll meet on Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom or you can join Zoom with us at the library for a chance to pick the brain of someone with 45 years’ experience. Register for this free event by calling the library.

Children:

Brighten up winter afternoons with Something Cool After School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. Join us on Jan. 14 when we’ll make sock donuts that’ll look almost good enough to eat. The sky’s the limit when you create something amazing with polymer clay on Jan. 16. Do you want to build a snowman? Make the cutest one ever on Jan. 21. Ages 6 and up.

Start a new habit this year by introducing your child(ren) to the wonderful world of literature at Read & Rhyme on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Ask the staff about 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten that allows you to track your reading and your child can receive a small prize for each milestone reached.

Teens & ’Tweens: 

Needing something to do on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m.? Bring along a photo of your favourite pet to Teen Scene, and we’ll help you create a funky portrait on Jan. 15. Ages 11+.

There’s room for you at Dungeons & Dragons Night, a time of adventurous storytelling, Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Ages 13 +. There are always snacks to go along with the fun.

Adults:

Prepare yourself to help someone in a cardiac emergency or accidental opioid poisoning with LifeSaver Duo: Navigating Emergencies with Confidence on Jan. 14 at 6:30 pm. Pre-register by calling the library. Ages 16+. This is not a certificate program but it will equip you and bolster your confidence.

When ice and snow keep you from getting outside for a walk, keep those muscles limber with Gentle Yoga for Seniors on Jan. 14, at 10:30 a.m. HandiBus trips are free for this program so call 403-742-5858 for pick up.

Discover the joy of jamming with other musicians at our Ukulele Circle on Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. If you don’t have access to a ukulele of your own, the library has a couple of instruments for participants to use.

If you’re dreaming of springtime, why not register for Crystal’s Crafters on Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. when we’ll create a touch of spring in a teacup? Bring a teacup of your choosing and join us for some creativity. To reserve a spot, call the library.

Do you feel the need for some guided stretching exercises for better relaxation and sleep? Yoga Nidra happens on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. in your own home via Zoom. Call or email the library (spl@prl.ab.ca) for the Zoom link.

You are not alone if you struggle to know how to cope with the excessive drinking of someone close to you. Join Al-Anon meetings on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. for coping strategies and confidential support.

Come out for a fun round of Bingo and prizes for the winners with the Afternoon Friends on Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. 

The Reader’s Circle has chosen Tom Hanks’s novel The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece as January’s selection. “This is a wild, ambitious…novel about how stories happen.” Check out your own copy and then meet on Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. to swap impressions of the book with a cuppa.

If you know someone who’s experiencing memory lapses, why not accompany them to the Alzheimer Society program, Minds in Motion? Held each Wednesday from 1-3 p.m, we offer an hour of light exercise and a second hour of relaxation with enjoyable mind-stimulating games.

All Ages: 

Mondays are online gaming night, 8-9 p.m. between Stettler and Rocky Mountain House Public Libraries. Get the link from the library to participate in the group chat and be sure to sign up with Nintendo Switch Online so you can be part of the Nintendo games.
