Celebrate the joy of reading with Family Literacy Day on Jan. 27.  Read any book, magazine, or online article for fifteen minutes that day and report your minutes to us via Facebook, calling or emailing the library (spl@prl.ab.ca), or filling out a form on our website (https://prl.ab.ca/Stettler). Then get into the community spirit as we compete against other libraries in Alberta for the most minutes read. Every report counts, so come on, Stettler, show us your literary acumen, your book brainpower, and your linguistic skills!

Children can bring their favourite stuffed animal to the Teddy Sleepover on Family Literacy Day between 5 and 6 p.m., then return the next morning and enjoy a fun storytelling session for the whole family.

Children:

You never know what you will be doing at Something Cool After School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. Try a cool art technique with sandpaper and crayons when we make monoprints on Jan. 28. We will be extra “cool” on Jan. 30 when we’ll design charming snow globes. Ages six and up.

Whenever School is out, the Library is in! Enjoy Harold’s imaginative adventures on the big screen in Harold and the Purple Crayon on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. There will even be free popcorn!

Bring little ones five and under to Read & Rhyme on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for stories, songs, and sizzling good times. To keep their language development going, ask us about 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and get a small prize for each reading milestone you reach.

Teens & ’Tweens:

Show off your culinary arranging skills with an imaginative charcuterie board on Jan. 29 at 4:30 p.m. Tasting is definitely allowed. Please register so we can ensure we have enough food for everyone. Ages 10 and up.

Teens aged 13 and up are welcome to join the fun on Teen Games Night, Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. for all your favourite games like Jackbox, Mario Kart, and more.

Cozy up to our fireplace and join other yarn enthusiasts for Crystal’s Crochet Club on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. Bring your work in progress or, if you’re a beginner, come for instruction in this soothing, timeless art. You can also get in on the fun of creating a community granny square afghan.

Book your spot ahead for Crystal’s Crafters on Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. when we’ll be creating a unique wreath from puzzle pieces. To register, call the library.

Join our Reader’s Circle book club for a discussion of Tom Hanks’s (yes, that Tom Hanks!) latest novel, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece, on Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. We’ll also have copies of February’s selection, The Bittlemores by Jann Arden, available to read ahead of next month’s meeting.

Minds in Motion is for anyone with mild cognitive decline or who wants to keep their brains and bodies active. We meet on Wednesdays (new day) from 1-3 p.m. for activities developed by the Alzheimer Society to foster and preserve mental acuity. Caregivers are welcome to attend, too.

All Ages:

For free fun and fitness for the whole family, you can borrow one of our circulating Stettler Recreation Centre one-week passes, giving you access to the gym and pool. These are popular so call ahead to reserve your pass for your preferred dates.
