Creativity, competition, and crafts are all part of the excitement planned for our March Break programs, running from March 22-29 for kids aged six and up.

While kids enjoy supervised learning activities, parents can relax in front of our fireplace or some quiet library nook with a good book.

To kick off the coming week, we’re featuring The Wild Robot on March 21 at 1 p.m. with popcorn and snacks. Bring the family for the adventures of Roz, a robot shipwrecked on an uninhabited island who adopts an orphaned gosling in this powerful DreamWorks story of self-discovery and what it means to be connected to all living things.

With that kind of start, you will want to get in all the fun during the rest of March Break. Don’t forget to call the library to pre-register.

March 22— 1 p.m. Dive (literally) into the world of special effects using our FX mat to create cool designs.

March 24—1 p.m. Enjoy the family-friendly film Moana for a fun afternoon together. There’ll be plenty of free popcorn to share.

March 25—1 p.m. Return for the sequel, Moana 2 for a relaxing family event complete with popcorn.

March 26—1 p.m. Learn to bake the best mac-and-cheese ever, perfect for sharing with friends and family.

March 27—1 p.m. Challenge your friends to the board game of your choice and win!

March 28—1 p.m. Create your own stuffed sock snake without any sewing.

March 29—1 p.m. We finish off the week strong with bingo, where everyone has a chance to win some exciting prizes.

Children:

Ease your tension with something to squeeze and squish, maul and mash—a stress ball that you’ll make on March 20 at 4 p.m. at Something Cool After School.

Foster a love of books with your little ones (0-5 yrs) by reading to them daily, letting them turn the pages, or even acting out the scenes in their favourite books. Then bring them to Read & Rhyme Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

Did you know that your child can pick out a small prize after reaching family reading milestones as part of our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program? Find out more next time you’re in the library.

Teens & ’Tweens:

What could be better than snacks and tea, but snacks, tea, and books? We’ll make rainbow Rice Krispies treats, drink tea, and choose a book for our Book Club on March 26 at 4:30 p.m. Ages 10+.

It’s time for Teen Games Night, our monthly social evening for youth 13+ where we have snacks, drinks, and fun with games like Jackbox, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart. Get in on the fun on March 26 at 5:30 p.m.

Join fellow adventurers for a night of fantasy, strategy, and storytelling at Dungeons & Dragons Night on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Ages 13 +. Snacks have a starring role!

Seniors, keep your mind active and flexible with the light exercise and cognitive activities we offer at Minds in Motion, a program developed by the Alzheimer Society to keep memory and brain function sharp. We meet Wednesdays at 1-3 p.m. and welcome caregivers, too.

If a job search is in your future, you’ll want a compelling and noteworthy resume. To update yours, make an appointment with our employment resource specialist, who is available for consultations on Thursday afternoons from 1-3 p.m.

All Ages:

From now until May, Lego Club moves to the fourth Saturday of the month, so mark your calendar for March 22, at 11 a.m. Join us for flights of architectural imagination with your favourite bricks.

We will accept gently used books, dvds, blu-rays and CDs, but no encyclopedias or textbooks, please. You have until April 5 to get your donations in. Then browse to your heart’s content on Apr 11 from 10 am to 8 pm and Apr 12 from 9 am to 4 pm.
