Happy New Year.

We hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday and a joyous Christmas. Students and staff arrived back to school last Monday, Jan. 4 ready for action.

Les Bûcherons (The Woodcutters) will be visiting our school from Jan. 18 until the 22 for an Artists in Residency program sponsored by Alberta Foundation for the Arts and our parent council.

“In 1982, Gilbert Parent created Les Bûcherons, a bilingual company which offers schools, festivals, communities and businesses exceptional and unique opportunities to become aware of and appreciate French-Canadian culture, history and folklore.

“The Artists in Residency Program is a dynamic educational and self-discovery experience. It includes a vibrant and motivational concert by the artists and workshops every day, including jigging, square dancing, singing, song writing, story-telling, percussion, dancing men, master of ceremonies and spoons. It ends with the students performing their work and showing their unique talents in a final concert for the community.” More information is at www.lesbucherons.com

There will be a student performance on Thursday, Jan. 21 as well as a performance by Les Bûcherons on Friday, Jan. 22 followed by a hot lunch. Watch for details.

Other upcoming events include Ralph Cervi’s visit to our school on Jan. 27, to do an Internet safety presentation.

Junior high students are travelling to Halkirk to practice basketball. They are also currently fundraising for their upcoming ski trip.

Citrus fruit sales are also underway with proceeds going to support school field trips and transportation costs for these trips.
