Singing in the spirit of Thanksgiving -Christ King School students

Another highlight this week was the arrival of boxes and boxes of chocolate almonds for our annual fall fundraiser. Students headed out to sell these treats to family, friends, and neighbours over the Thanksgiving weekend. Funds raised will go towards subsidizing field trips and Physical Education equipment for Christ-King School.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, the Grade 7 and 8 boys were the recipients of a Learning Clicks presentation by University of Alberta Law student and Learning Clicks ambassador, Marc Yu.

Marc talked to the class about the myriad of post-secondary options available to students after high school. Questions and prizes were thrown out during the hour long presentation. Each student also received an interactive DVD with video clips, links to occupational profiles, and a customizable avatar to encourage the exploration of the world of post-secondary education. This served as an excellent introduction to our new unit in Health; Life Roles and Career Development.

We kicked off the long weekend with a Thanksgiving celebration organized by Miss Stang and the Grade 1 and 2 class. They reminded us what Thanksgiving is all about; being grateful to God for all the blessings He has given us, through song and prose, a play and... popcorn. A capacity crowd of students, staff and parents were enlightened by the popcorn object lesson that was presented to us: the small kernels are like our prayers of thanksgiving and praise offered up to God. Once popped, the popcorn bursts open and spills over the edge of the bowl. It can be likened to God’s abundant, overflowing blessings in our lives. Thanks be to God.
