Several of our young people are involved with the annual Stettler Music festival this week. I was personally able to take in some of the dance sessions and enjoyed watching my granddaughter, Josie Wideman of Three Hills and her group participate.
Exciting news in the Jacobson family last Sunday when Rylee received word he has been accepted to play with the Red Deer Wrestlers AAA team. Earlier in the year, Rylee, age 12, had been scouted and invited to tryouts. Way to go, Rylee!
Denise and Shane Jacobson hosted a family birthday party for daughter Cheyanne to celebrate her third birthday March 31. On hand were Corrina and family, grandpa and grandma Jacobsons and grandpa and grandma, Dale and Wilda Nichols.
The Gadsby Omega Circle will be holding their first meeting of the year on Thursday, April 21 at the home of Joanne Hoopfer south of Gadsby. Any ladies interested in joining are encouraged to come.
And this Saturday night, Gadsby will be the place to be. If you haven’t got your ticket yet for ladies night out, this is your last chance. The event is on this weekend. Please phone Joanne at 403-574-2340 if interested. And for those on the quieter side of life, the monthly supper and Bingo at the Bank Building is also this Saturday night. Easter ham supper at 5 p.m. and Bingo at 7:30. Everyone welcome.
Jack and Melanie Ross, James and Emily along with Doreen Reynolds are back from a 14 day “R&R” in the sun in Huatulco, Mexico. This was James and Emily’s first experience flying and loved it. They all enjoyed temperatures of +30 Celsius and had lots to see and experience. While there, Emily celebrated her eighth birthday. This was a very family oriented resort and the hosts presented Emily with a birthday cake and six servers sang “Happy Birthday, Emily” in Spanish.
Congratulations to four of our local girls who were in the final barrel racing, winter series in Stettler on the weekend. Charlee Derr earned first in peewee 2d; Kyonna Derr was first in youth 3d; Shayla Derr, second in youth 2d and Rae-ann came in third in open second.
Rae-ann became engaged to Josh Foot recently. They plan on a summer wedding, 2012.
On a sadder note, we send sympathies to the Glasier family on the loss of mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Wilma Glasier. Wilma and Adrian farmed and raised their family in the Gadsby area and retired to Heart Haven lodge where Wilma was until the time of her passing, in Stettler hospital. Sincere sympathies to Harvey and Barb Glasier of Dawson Creek, and their family; Kay (Glasier) and Doug Hankinson of Wandering River and their family, as well as Wayne and Margery Glasier of Gadsby and their family. Wilma will be dearly missed in the community. She was one day short of 97 years.
And word has come of the passing of Winnie Giles of Calgary. Howard and Winnie were great supporters of the Omega Circle and cemetery, visiting annually.
The Giles family homesteaded south of Gadsby.
