Kids were in the running mode in Big Valley

A big cross-country meet - – Big Valley Golf Course was the scene of activity as about 820 students from grades 6 to 9 participated in the regional cross-country running championships Oct. 15 under Central West Alberta Junior High Athletic Association. While athletes in grades 6 and 7 ran two kilometers

Despite the snow around, 650 students from across Central Alberta participated in the CWJHAA cross country Run held at the Big Valley Golf Course. Grades 6-7 ran 2km, grades 8-9 ran 3km. After the run the students were treated to a barbecue.

Condolences go out to Rev. Susan Bower on the passing of her mother in Heart Haven on Oct. 12.

Clearview public schools community consultations will take place in Big Valley on Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009, between 6 p.m. and 8.45 pm. RSVP required with the school in your location of choice. Please make sure you pre-register. Supper to be served between 6 and 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the consultation is to give our school communities an opportunity to provide feedback to trustees about their school and what the vital components of education are for the children in the community.

Annual general library meeting is on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Big Valley Legion Hall 7:30 p.m.

The Oil Kings have their home opener game on Saturday Oct. 24th at 8:30pm against Hughendon.

The seniors’ drop-in centre had 16 people come out to the first military whist since last summer. First place went to Ella Hockley, Vandy Koshure, Len Shaw, Dorothy Annable. The next military whist date hasn’t been set yet. But will be in the whistle.

The Big Valley Jubilee Hall had a steady line-up of people between 4 and 6 p.m. for the United Church turkey supper on Sunday. The weather was beautiful and over 400 people came to the supper. As usual the food was excellent and a big thanks to all the volunteers who helped in the preparation of the dinner and the cleanup.

Planet 57 is every second and fourth Thursday of the month between 7 and 8 p.m., at the clubhouse across the street from the Evangelical Free Church.

Gym Nite is every second Friday at the Big Valley School gymnasium for pre-teens ( Grades 5-7)

Annual meeting of Big Valley Beautification and Cultural Society is on Tuesday, Nov 3, at 7 p.m. at the railway station. The meeting is to discuss future direction, and election of officers. Everybody is welcome to come in with new ideas on the beautification of our village.
