STETTLER PUBLIC LIBRARY -- August is here and the first month of the Stettler Summer Reading Program has been so much fun! The Monkeys (ages 6-8) have read enough books that they earned an ice cream party! The Lions (ages 9-12) are not far behind them. We encourage our kids to keep reading because more prizes may be coming their way if they keep up on their reading.
Just a quick reminder that there are fun sessions available at the library for ages 6-8, 9-12, and 13+. Join us for Gardening, the Teen Cooking Club, and Make and Create, where we explore many different activities with all ages. On Fridays, we have an all-ages-included family event as well. For more information on any of the programs, check the weekly and daily schedules posted on our Facebook page, or stop in at the library. Our goal is to have fun, and build literacy and other skills in preparation for the fall.
This Friday, Aug. 5, we are so excited to have the Juno award-winning children’s performer Peter Puffin! His performance will be held in the library and will begin at 2 p.m. There will also be a draw for a t-shirt and one of his CDs. Bring your kids of all ages to enjoy this performance.
Ready to perform? Show off your unique talents at our Talent Show on Aug. 12. All ages and acts are welcome – and all participants with receive a prize! Please register your act by Thursday, Aug. 11 at the Stettler Public Library, or phone us at 403-742-2292.
Dying to learn more about your phone, tablet, e-reader, or computer? Visit the library for Tech Time! Held twice a month, you can receive one-on-one assistance with your electronic device of choice on Thursday, Aug. 4 or Thursday, Aug. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Cookbooks are now available for next month’s Cookbook Club. The theme for the month is Books from Blogs. I have looked at the cookbooks and there are some yummy looking recipes in them. Join us on Monday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. for a wonderful potluck. For more information contact us at spl@prl.ab.ca.
We are currently accepting donations for our annual summer book sale. You have until Wednesday, Aug. 10 to get your books in. The book sale will run from Thursday, Aug. 11 to Wednesday, Aug. 17 (just remember that we are closed on Sundays). This is a great way to stock up on reading material for the Labour Day long weekend and for the long fall harvest.
