It’s a busy time of year as the locals prepare for winter activities and the pre-Christmas parties and gatherings. On Saturday, Nov. 18 the hall will be the scene of a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a Southern Gospel presentation. This year the performers are “ Canada’s Double Portion” a musical family with ten children from North Battleford, Sk. Everyone is invited to attend. On Tuesday, Nov. 21 there will be a potluck at the Senior Centre followed by their regular meeting and floor curling. The seniors afternoon bingo is on Tuesday, Nov. 7 and the hall board regular bingo is Thursday, Nov. 9 starting at 7:30 sharp with coffee on the house. Sunday, Dec. 3 will be the day that families gather to have “ breakfast with Santa” at the Hall from 9 to 11 a.m. The Elks will be cooking the pancakes and Santa is scheduled to stop by around 10 a.m. Don’t forget your camera.
Brexley Jaymes, daughter of Kurt and Erin Chick, was baptised at the United Church in Castor on Sunday, Oct. 29. Twenty five plus family members celebrated the occasion with a dinner at the Senior Centre. Present were grandparents David and Linda Chick and Alvin and Carrie Kuefler as well as great grandparents Harold and Velma Chick, several aunts, uncles and cousins and her big brother, Hunter, who is four years old.
Dawn Elsasser, along with many other family members, attended a meet and greet baby shower for her granddaughter, Briar Dawn Clark in Calgary on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Congratulations to Kathryn Morlock and Trevor Haustein on the arrival of their second child, a 7 lb. 15 oz. baby girl, born on Oct. 31 in the Stettler hospital. Her name is Violet Velma and she is named for two of her great-grandmothers, Violet Turre and Noreen Woolsey. She also has another great- grandmother, Connie Haustrin as well as grandparents Susan and Keith Haustein, Kathy and Larry Tuck and Duane and Etta Morlock and a big brother, Gabriel, who is two years old.
Word has been received on the passing of Olive “Mary” Stewart from Ponoka on Oct. 30. She will be interred in the Halkirk cemetery beside her husband who lived in Halkirk many years ago. Mary is a distant relative of Mary Stewart and to Ross and Pat Stewart.
Sympathy goes out to Rick and Bernadette ( Gonda ) Schofer and families on the passing of Ricks dad, Len. Services were held in the Anglican Church in Stettler on Oct. 28.
Deer and Moose hunting season opened in our area on Nov. 1. Farmers are pleased that some snow and moisture has fallen on the dry pasture land cutting the risk of grass fires.
An average of 35 “trick or treat” youngsters canvassed the town on Tuesday evening and weren’t disappointed.
