It was busy Friday for the community

Spring like weather continues throughout the second week of March. That means it’s just that much closer to spring.

Spring like weather continues throughout the second week of March. That means it’s just that much closer to spring.

Deepest sympathy to the Steen family as Leonard Steen passed away Monday, March 8 in Red Deer hospital. Through devastation and grief, the family prepared for the funeral which was held Friday, March 12, at 10 a.m. in the Rumsey community hall. Rev Harold Hunter, a one time resident in the Morrin community conducted the service. Many family members got together to greet as some of the family members are somewhat scattered.

Members of the community rallied together to provide a generous lunch for all who attended.

The afternoon of March 12, Richmond Ranch held their annual bull sale at their farm, east of Rumsey. The weather was very nice for travelling as buyers come from two to four hours drive to attend. Two phone buyers bought bull that are going to Nova Scotia and to Ontario as well as into Saskatchewan and BC.

Friday was certainly a complicated day for many folks as the Steen family are neighbours of the Richmonds and are very actively involved in the sale. As our community is so very close knit, events were arranged so that the times didn’t interfere with one another.

The saying “ I thought I was poor when I had no shoes until I saw the man who had no feet”. This thought came to mind as I watch the paralympics games on TV. What courageous and talented people.

Beginning Monday, March 8, the Rumsey annual mixed bonspiel was held. Curling continued throughout the week with the oyster supper being held on Thursday evening.

Friends met at supper time to celebrate Judy Nelsons’ birthday. Her birthday is March 16 and the balloon on the table had a five and a six in it so I don’t know just how old she is. She said something about working for the government by next month. Celebrations continued as a group of her friends joined them in a trip south for a few days. Happy birthday, Judy.

Sunday, March 21, church service will be held in the Morrin United church when Rev. Harold and Amy Hunter will be in attendance. Service is held at 10:30 a.m. as is the service in the Morrin Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Skip McArthur leading the service. No need to miss church with two places of worship in the same town and the same time. Choices--choices.

In only one short week, it will be time to quilt in the Rumsey Drop-in Center. Fun begins on Monday, March 22 in the late morning after the ‘cowboys’ have their morning get together. The men of the district meet at the drop-in each Monday and Thursday mornings for coffee, fellowship and cards but mainly story telling from what I hear. Anyone wishing to join in is welcome.

Quilting will continue into the next day but will begin earlier. We would love to have you join us. Just bring a sandwich for your lunch and plan to spend the day.
