Holy Thursday will be marked by meal

Christ-King Chronicle

At 3 o’clock on Friday, April 15, Aspen Ford and Christ King School joined forces and saw 90 participants test drive Ford vehicles to raise money towards a new community playground. The “Drive One 4 UR School” campaign continued at the Trade Show on Saturday, where more than 200 drivers helped us reach the $6000 maximum. Principal Sheldon Gallagher stated, “I’m very pleased with reaching our target and was very impressed with the support shown by the community of Stettler. People were positive about the project and wished us good luck.”

Christ King School Council will match the amount raised from the Ford fundraiser and we have received numerous other cash donations from businesses and community groups. The dream of a new community playground will soon be a reality, thanks to the many generous donors to this worthwhile project.

We were also very pleased to have Halkirk’s Mother Theresa School join us for mass and a soup hot lunch on Friday at Christ King Parish. All proceeds from lunch will go to Development and Peace, the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada and the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis.

Students from Stettler Elementary School visited Christ King School’s kindergarten and Grade 1 classroom to share a smile as part of their HERO project. Then our students passed on the joy to friends and family in and around the school. What a wonderful idea – everything really is easier with a smile.

On Monday, we celebrated the beginning of Holy Week by reflecting on Palm Sunday. The Grade 2 class led us in prayer and song to remember Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This week, we focus on the events leading up to Jesus’ passion on Good Friday including the Last Supper.

On Holy Thursday, we will be hosting a Seder Meal at the school to understand the Jewish roots of our Christian tradition. There will be no school on Good Friday, Easter Monday and Tuesday in honour of our Lord’s death and resurrection.
