Holiday season saw many happy reunions in Gadsby and Westwoods

The holiday season has come to an end, school is back in and it’s business as usual. Residents of the Gadsby, Westwoods area enjoyed many happy family get togethers.

Barb and Vic Carey hosted Christmas with 20 family members which included Barb’s brother Wayne and Gretha Ganshirt, Kerrie-Ann and Jason and Raya of Red Deer, Jason’s parents of Lacombe and sister of Strathmore, as well as Barb’s sister Leslie and Duane and their daughter Dana of Alliance, Wes and Leasyl and Lincoln of Gadsby, Joanna, Taylor, Tori and Jonah of Big Valley.

Wayne and Margery Glasier enjoyed Wayne’s sister Kay and Doug Hankinson of Wandering River and Wilma’s grandson Darcy and René came up from Calgary during the holidays, bringing Wilma’s new great-granddaughter Riley for a visit.

Betty and Frank Hadwin had a quiet Christmas with daughter Margaret and granddaughter Cristyn from Rimbey. Joining them for the day were Donna McKay and Brittany of Gadsby.

Don and Alana Parsons spent Christmas at her daughter’s place in Red Deer. Don and Alana have made their home where Ken and Mabel Chadwick farmed.

Larry and Kathy Tuck hosted about 30 family members on Boxing Day.

Iona Berg spent several days at the farm with Percy and Paulette. Joining them for Christmas Day were Jeanne Beisel, Stettler and Randel Welsh, Big Valley. The ladies stayed overnight, enjoying a day and evening of canasta, good food and lots of laughs. Then on Dec. 27 daughter Christy and Curtis Wideman, Matthew, Clayton and Josie arrived to celebrate a second Christmas Day with the family.

Stan and Gloria Diegel had an awesome Christmas starting with Christmas Eve supper at Arden and Deanne’s. Next day saw Wade and Ybiette and girls; Rick and Greg and family at Stan and Gloria’s while Arden and Deanne headed to Deanne’s family for the day. Then on Boxing Day while the family were all gathered Tasha and Aaron and family surprised Gloria and Stan with an unexpected visit. New Year’s Eve, Arden and Deanne, Rick and Greg and Jim and Dixie gathered together, while Wade and Ybiette headed to Grande Prairie to Ybiette’s family members.

Marie and Duane Bignell spent Christmas with Duane’s parents, the Kendal Bignell’s. Then on Boxing Day Marie and Duane hosted the Carothers family, Lee and Jim, Dan Costner and family as well as Marie and Duane’s daughters.

Jim and Ethel Baird, Leigh and Adrianne, traveled to Lynne and Doug Potter’s to join their family Christmas Day. Diane Baird went to Saskatoon to her family and stayed a week taking in the junior hockey tournament in Saskatoon. A pleasant end to the holiday.

Christmas can be a sad time as well. Estelle Haeberle passed away Christmas Day in Stettler hospital at the age of 79. John Cassidy passed away suddenly at the age of 69. Heartfelt sympathy goes out to both families.

Rick and Debbie Shepherd had part of the Cassidy family on Christmas Day. Later Rick’s entire family including his mother Louise, sisters and brothers and their families joined them.

Frank and Eleanor Dahlgren enjoyed Elva and Roger and family from Innisfail; Neal and Lorna and family, Gadsby; Cecil and Pat and family and Dwayne and Bonnie and family for Christmas Eve. Then on Boxing Day grandson Tanner (Megan) Walgenbach came for the day. Dwayne and Bonnie and family came for supper. Monday saw Brenda and Tyler Labaucan and Brenda’s three grandchildren came.

Dervil Heer of Cochrane, while visiting his dad Manuel at Christmas, also visited Percy and Paulette Heer Boxing Day.

Ray and Rene Blackmore had a busy Christmas with their family arriving in time for Christmas dinner. On hand were Travis and Leigh Anne and young Jack (who later celebrated his fourth birthday Dec. 29 with a bowling party), Scott and Christa of Saskatoon, and Marian Blackmore. Joining them on Boxing Day were Rob and Melissa of Macklin, SK and Mike and Angela Blackmore and family.

Smitty and Lavonne spent Christmas at Lavonne’s mother, Elsie Hronek’s where about 15 family members gathered and New Year’s at brother Stan and Fran Hronek’s with about 12 family members.
