Hockey families kept busy

Although Halkirk doesn’t have enough young people to field a hockey team, we still have lots of players to watch and cheer on, which keeps the parents and grandparents busy.

Players this year with Castor teams (parents and/or grandparents in brackets) are: Brody and Brandyn Baird (TJ and Kendra): Devon Johnson (JD and Sandra): Trey and Taygen MacGillivray (Layne and Lorena): Morgan Jordal and Cade James ( Doan and Sherri): Jake and Benson Van Heinen (Phil and Jane): Amie Rowland (Sonny and Margret): Landon Slemp (Dave and Linda): Garrett and Colby Compton (Stan and Dorothy).

JD Johnson, TJ Baird and Aaron Compton are sharing coaching duties. Playing with Stettler teams are: Elliott Mabbott (Darcy and Andrea): Axel Bergstrom (Doug and Virginia): Brandon Kent (Dale and Melody): Tanner Duncan (Murray and Linda) and Geri Slemp (Dave and Linda). Troy Slemp also coaches.

Congratulations to Linda and Walley Lehmann on the birth of Linda’s grandson Arcadian Paul Cipperly, born Jan. 28 at 12:43 p.m. (5lbs 11oz-18” in length) at the Red Deer regional hospital. Arcadian is the son of Linda’s son Spencer and Kristen.

Sympathy is extended to Blaine Russell on the passing of his mom, Alice, in Carman, Manitoba. Blaine and Edna attended the services last week.

Sympathy goes out to the relatives of Larry Broome who passed away in Calgary. Larry was the youngest child of Cliff and Jean Broome and was raised Northeast of town.

Citrus fruit orders through the school are due in on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Congratulations to Sandra Johnson, Clara Nibourg, Lorna and Courtney Schilling who placed second in the A event and to Kathy Krautt and her team who got in the prizes in the B event during the ladies curling bonspiel in Castor this weekend.

Deirdre and Ron Muncy, Gordie Cordel and friends Paul and Velma Schofield returned from a two-week vacation in Playa de Carmen, Mexico.

Greg, Laura and Rob Kent from Rocky Mountain House spent the weekend with Dale and Melody. While here the male family members did some ice fishing.
