Heritage society needs new members, newcomers invited to join next week’s meeting

Gadsby/Westwoods

Happy Mother’s Day to all.

Mother’s Day was celebrated in a big way at Greg and Richelle Skockopole’s with the arrival of Jinger Raquel, born Friday, May 6 in Red Deer Hospital. Jinger, a sister for Alexander, Bridget, Chandler and Elliot weighed 8 pounds 8.6 ounces. Grandparents are Stan and Gloria Diegel of Gadsby, Jim and Dixie Skocdopole of Botha as well as great grandmas Maria Diegel of Gadsby and Lois Savage of Stettler. Richelle and Jinger were able to come home Sunday.

Bridget was back from Red Deer in time to attend her dance recital at the PAC in Stettler. She danced Friday. Saturday Nan and Papa and her family were in attendance.

Frank and Eleanor Dahlgren had a late Easter supper at Dwayne and Bonnie’s on Saturday night with Kristina home from Olds College and Richard home from University of Calgary. Also there was Betty Kobi of Stettler. A great family evening.

We wish Roland Desilets well as he moves into Heart Haven lodge from his long-time home south of Gadsby. Roland and Laura moved to Gadsby district in the 1960s and raised their family on the farm there. Roland will be in good company with many former residents of the Gadsby area in residence.

The Gadsby Heritage Society would like to welcome any interested persons to attend their annual meeting next Wednesday afternoon, May 18 at the Gadsby church. They are becoming fewer in number and like many of our service clubs, we need new members. The meeting starts at 2 p.m. Come have a cup of coffee and enjoy the afternoon.

Sophie and Sadie Diegel and their dance groups attended competition Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Sherwood Park. Sadie’s group won four gold; Sophie’s group won two high silver and two gold. The girls came home with ribbons, plaques and a great experience to remember. Congratulations to the whole group!

The Gadsby District Hobby Club will be holding their annual Spring Fling on Saturday, May 21 at the Gadsby Community Hall. On the menu is chicken and ribs, baked potato, veggies and salads and their famous dessert smorg. Supper will start at 5 p.m. Door prizes available for a fun time.

Cash Bingo and the loonie pot back at the bank building that same night starting at 7:30 p.m. Come out and try your luck!

Anyone stopping to get their mail on Sunday discovered around twenty mail and parcel boxes open and empty. At least one good citizen in Gadsby reported the incident and the RCMP were quick to respond.

The break-in is believed to have taken place sometime Saturday night. Identity theft may be the reason. Anyone with any information is urged to call the police.
