Help is on hand to plan your summer vacation this year

It is amazing how quickly time can just fly past you. I can’t believe that author Matt Jackson will be at the Stettler Public Library tomorrow night. Can it really be April already?

It is amazing how quickly time can just fly past you. I can’t believe that author Matt Jackson will be at the Stettler Public Library tomorrow night. Can it really be April already? Well, it must be, so I hope that everybody turns out tomorrow night (Thursday, April 8) at 7 p.m. to hear Matt Jackson tell us about his travels across Canada and the people that he met during his four-year trek. Plus, Matt won’t be just telling us about his travels, he will be showing us pictures as well. He shot more than 25,000 pictures, so I am sure he won’t run out.

This is just a reminder that the Stettler Public Library will be present at the 30th annual Stettler trade show. Stop by our booth and check your e-mail or Facebook, see what new books are available or just to say hello. Donalda Public Library will be joining us on Saturday night, so stop by and find out what is happening at their library.

The Stettler Public Library is going to be having a party. Not just any party but a Mad Hatter Tea Party. This party will be held on Tuesday, April 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. and is for ages 8 to 12 but if someone comes that is just a bit younger than 8 or just a bit older than 12 they won’t be stopped from joining it. There will be contests, prizes and food.

Come dressed as your favourite Alice in Wonderland character. So, come and take a trip down the rabbit’s hole and let’s have some fun.

Did you know that the Stettler Public Library and our membership with the Parkland Regional Library can help you plan your next vacation? You can first get a taste of for travel by reading books by people that have travelled and then written about it such as Will Ferguson, Frances Mayes or Michael Palin. We also have some magazines that might help you get a bite from the travelling bug. We carry National Geographic Traveller, Canadian Geographic and National Geographic.

But what if you are past that stage and are ready to plan that dream trip? The Stettler Public Library has an extensive collection of travel guides such as Fodor’s and Lonely Planet. If you are planning a trip to a country that we don’t have a travel guide for, don’t worry. Our catalogue links us directly to the collection of the 49 other libraries that make up the Parkland Regional Library System. We also have access to the catalogues of all the other Alberta Libraries through TAL Online (The Alberta Library’s Online Catalogue). We may be able to get you a travel DVD as well. We are just a wealth of travel information!

You can see that the Stettler Public Library is more than just books. We are author visits, trade fairs, tea parties and travel planning. That is not all. There are facets of this public library that I am sure that you haven’t discovered yet. Stop in some time and you will discover or rediscover what you are missing.
