Heartfelt appreciation for snow cleaning work - Big Valley Bulletin

As nonstop snow piled up in the area this past week, Big Valley’s dedicated clearing “crew” worked persistently to keep our streets passable. Huge mounds of snow have appeared around the village as testament to their hard work. Great job guys! Your hard work is genuinely appreciated by everyone. Many thanks to the scores of anonymous Snow Angels who have been busy all over this village, secretly keeping the sidewalks and driveways clear for those unable to do it themselves. What fabulous surprise to step outside and find the work already done. Thank you all so much.

At the Big Valley Inn, 10 players made it out for crib on Sunday, Jan. 16. 1st went to Donna D’Aoust, 2nd was split between Leonard Shaw and Bobby Authenac, 3rd went to Gladys Groat and the booby went to Phil D’Aoust. This week’s lucky draw winner was Gladys Groat. A great time was had by all. Thanks to everyone for coming out. New players are always welcome.

The drop-in centre hosted their first military whist evening on Friday, Jan. 14, with 16 players out for the evening. The winners were Andy, Keith, Kathy and Buster. Military whist will be held at 7 p.m., every second Friday of the month.

Crib at the drop-in centre attracted 10 players this weekend. 1st was Donna Clark, 2nd Bob Boswell, 3rd Jim Paul and this week’s booby went to Keith Campbell. Everyone had fun and remember, new players are always welcome.

The Oil Kings played away and at home this past weekend against the Sedgewick Sabres, who are tied for first place in league play. Though losing both games, the Kings were competitive with the high-flying Sabres. In the Sabres home territory, the Kings struggled in the first period, scoring one goal to Sedgewick’s four, but came back in the second period to score two goals to end the period 4-3. Though Big Valley was only assessed 3 penalties in the third, Sedgewick made good on two power play goals, to end the game 6-3 in Sedgewick’s favor. Points for this game were: One goal each to Brett Muhlbach, Scott Campbell and Tyson Keith and one assist each to Aaron Lamson, Devan Shanks, Danny Grover, Lanny Duncan and Kent Friedley.

On Saturday night, the Kings hosted the Sabres in Stettler as a way of giving the Oil Kings a little more exposure. Sedgewick was all over the Kings as they outshot Big Valley 17-4, but Robbins was a rock in between the pipes and stopped all but two giving the Sabres a 2-0 lead after the first. The Kings came out steadier in the second as they won the period 3-1 ending the frame tied at three. Sedgewick got the go ahead goal early in the third and with the goalie pulled in the final minute of the game the Sabres scored an empty netter to win 5-3. Scorers for this game were: Brett Muhlbach, Jamie Muhlbach and AJ Keller with assists from, Lanny Duncan, Robb David and Tyson Keith.

Please come out this weekend as the Kings are hosts to Daysland on Friday night and Irma on Saturday as the Kings start to prepare for playoffs.
