Halloween is almost upon us and the HYC annual haunted house is this Saturday.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the last haunted hospital tour at 8:15. Feel free to get an extra night out of those Halloween costumes and come dressed for the occasion.

The Youth Center afterschool programs will be relocating this week on Wednesday and Thursday (with the exception of Weird Science) to the Stettler United Church and will be closed on Friday for HH preparations. The staff apologize for any inconvenience and stand ready to be terrorized by all the sugar filled ghosts and ghouls available, as punishment.

Leanna Moon, the new Big Brothers Big Sisters case worker is looking forward to the kick off of the in-school mentoring program within the next few weeks. She’s also excited to meet the current big and little brothers and sisters and anyone else who might be interested in volunteering for these awesome programs, so please stop by HYC or give her a call at 742-KIDS.

The Spark Club would like to send out a huge thank you to Wendy and Staff at the Old Fashioned Candy Shop and Gift Boutique for the fun and very tasty field trip. The girls toured the office, helped taste test and created bases for the bouquets.

Energy had a special guest speaker in last week, Julie Poffenroth, to teach them about reiki. The members learnt about relaxation techniques, the power of positive thinking and how to use a reiki tuning fork. One member, Mark Bengert, described the experience as ‘ cool and really interesting’.

The Weird Science Actual RDC Science and Tech Club partnership starts up this week and still has spots available for 9-12-year-olds. Anyone interested is encouraged to contact the HYC for more information.

Halloween was confusing. All my life my parents said, “Never take candy from strangers.” And then they dressed me up and said, “Go beg for it.” I didn’t know what to do. I’d knock on people’s doors and go, “Trick or treat.” “No thank you.”
