Halkirk turns on new water supply

The Village turned on the tap of their new water supply this week, part of the Shirley Mclennan water line project, taking water from the Red Deer river via Stettler and sending it east. The water line comes into a new building on the West end of Town sending it to the water tower and distributing it through the original water lines. Several new fire hydrants have been added to the system.

The locally sponsored pig roast, held last weekend, reported it was a successful event featuring lots of kids’ events, best of show bikes and cars, bed races, fire works and a band. Over one hundred a seventy people attended. Proceeds were donated to the local fire dept, the Elks club and the Village.

A few people from our area were at the Coronation hall on Thursday to listen to Tim Ball, a climatologist from Vancouver, speak on the changing weather patterns that are affecting crop growth in our area.

Congratulations to David and Linda Chick, who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a gathering of family and friends at Huber dam this weekend.

Congratulations to Lisa and Cody Larocque of Edmonton on the safe arrival of their 8lb 13oz baby boy, Owen Gabriel, on July 11 in Edmonton. Owen has a big brother 2 1/2 year old Levi. Grandparents are Jim and Kathy Kraut and great grandparents are Diane and Arnold Ray of Castor.

We send our best wishes out to Anna Taylor, who was recently a patient in the Stettler hospital.
