Halkirk Hicks host 4-H rodeo

The rodeo grounds were busy last weekend when the Halkirk Hicks hosted their 4-H rodeo and received many compliments on their organizational skills. The sponsors, volunteers, parents and members work very hard to make this a success. Our club placed very well. In Juniors Madelyn Schauer placed first in barrels, first in poles, first in keyhole and first in goat tying on Sat. and second in barrels, first in poles, first in keyhole on Sun.; Cale Neufeld placed fifth in poles, second in keyhole on Sat., second in poles, third in keyhole and sixth in goat tying on Sun.: Lief Neufeld placed sixth in barrels on Sat. and fifth in poles on Sun.; Mikenna Schauer placed third in keyhole on Sat. and first in barrels and fourth in poles on Sun.; Madison Nichols placed fourth in poles and fifth in keyhole on Sat.; Haley Ries placed fifth in barrels, second in poles and fourth in keyhole on Sat. and sixth in poles on Sun.; Hallie Erion placed sixth in keyhole on Sat. and second in goat tying on Sun. In the Intermediate group, Brittney Nichols placed second in barrels and fourth in goat tying on Sat.; Katelyn Dahmer placed fifth in keyhole on Sat. and third in barrels, first in poles and second in keyhole on Sun.; Seth Neufeld placed fourth in barrels, third in poles and fifth in keyhole on Sun.; Jacey Gamroth placed second in poles, first in keyhole and sixth in goat tying on Sat. and sixth in barrels on Sun. In the Senior category, Luke Nibourg placed fifth in barrels, first in keyhole and third in goat tying and on Sun.placed first in barrels, first in poles, first in keyhole, second in goat tying and first in steer riding; Sonya Marquart placed third in barrels and third in poles on Sat. and on Sun. placed sixth in barrels and sixth in poles; Ali Dahmer placed second in keyhole and first in goat tying on Sat. and third in barrels and first in goats on Sun.; Rae-anne Cordel placed sixth in barrels and poles, fourth in keyhole and sixth in goats on Sat and on Sun. placed fourth in barrels, second in poles and third in goats. Congratulations. Points and ribbons were given out from first to sixth place. Two more rodeos for the East Central District will be on June 25 and 26 at Gooseberry Lake.

The piano students of Karen Norman held their annual recital at the Hall on Monday evening. The 13 music students are from Halkirk and Gadsby and include Mikenna and Madelyn Schauer, Natalie Schilling, Alison and Katelyn Dahmer and Jillian Schaffner who all played solos and duets with one trio. The evening ended with the “chicken dance” followed by lunch. Great job girls!

Several attended the Clearview Recognition Night of the bus drivers and teachers held in Stettler last week.

A bridal shower was held on Sunday afternoon in the Hall to honor Jaymi Sawula, bride elect of Cody Rausch. Seated at the head table were Jaymi’s two sisters Karley Van Hyfte of Red Deer and Sheena MacDonald and daughter Annika from Botha. Also in attendance were Jaymi’s mom, Patti, of Stettler, Cody mom, Sue Rausch, Jaymi’s grandmother, Audrey Sawula, and Sue’s sister Lorrene and sister in law Pat from Brooks. A word puzzle, gift inspection and lunch brought the afternoon to a close. Cody and Jaymi will be married in Castor on July 16 and will make their home south of town.

Randi Howe who now lives in Calgary was the guest of honor at a bridal shower held at the Catholic Church in Castor on Saturday, prior to her wedding to Ian Campbell, which will be held at home on July 9. Assisting the bride was her future sister in law, Kayley Campbell from Stettler and her mom Joanne Howe. The lovely evening was attended by several close friends and neighbors and ended with lunch and visiting.

Dick and Ann Creasey attended their daughter, Cindy’s convocation in Calgary. Cindy received her degree in Kinesiology and is living and working in Calgary.

Jacey Gamroth and Twyla Sheffield represented the Mother Teresa students at the CARA trackmeet for Jr. High students in Stettler last Tuesday.

Peggy and Terry Vockeroth returned from a trip to Alaska helping their granddaughter, Annika celebrate her first birthday. In the fall Samantha Vockeroth will be teaching grade 2 at Glendale School in Red Deer.

Peggy (Brodersen) Jensen of Camrose visited in town last week en route to Castor to visit with her sister in law, Shirley Brodersen.
