Halkirk curling rink ice ready for upcoming bonspiels

The ice is in the curling rink and just needs to be polished up and then it will be ready for some practice shots. The men’s and ladies’ bonspiels will be held during the week of March 7, but it is hoped that the rink will be used prior to that time.

Call JD or Sandra Johnson to enter a rink or as an individual curler interested in entering the spiels or getting together for some regular fun games.

The school basketball teams have been hard at work this past week. The Grades 4 to 6 were in Donalda and Castor and the Grade 7-8 team was in Coronation on Wednesday and in Castor at the weekend for a tournament.

Students from Mother Teresa did well on their citrus fruit fundraiser. The fruit was delivered last weekend.

We extend our sympathy to Ida (Nichols) Hallett and family of Sherwood Park on the passing of her husband Gilbert “Gib” on Thursday.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Lorraine Lang, a long time resident of the Westwood district, who passed away on Thursday, Feb. 10 in Stettler.

Robert Trefz, who was a former resident of the Paintearth district, passed away this week and sympathy is extended to his wife Ester and family.

We welcome Dwight Kent’s wife, Carolina and her daughter Camille, who are from the Philippines and have finally received permission to move to Canada and will be part of our community.

Paul and Jacquie Dietrich and Irene Schilling attended the crib tournament in Forestburg on Saturday.

Family day is Monday, Feb. 18. It’s a holiday and a chance to celebrate your family.
