Halkirk Catholic School holds successful fundraiser

The Mother Teresa Halkirk Catholic school held a successful fundraiser on Wednesday night with a packed hall. There was a bingo, bake sale, garage sale and lemonade stand.

This fundraiser was in support for the Ronald McDonald house being built in Red Deer.

The Alliance/Castor community choir presented their spring performance at the Halkirk Community Church on Sunday afternoon.

The acoustics are so great in our little church that it is a performance well worth attending.

The Halkirk and District Seniors held their monthly meeting on Tuesday with a potluck supper beginning the evening, then they held their meeting and had floor curling and a couple games of pool.

There were 24 people attending the enjoyable evening. A reminder to everyone to send in your down payment on the upgrade of the Halkirk Homefires history book.

Congratulations to Roger and Carolyn Fetaz on the birth of a 7 lb 7oz baby girl, Simone Muriel, born on April 14 at the Daysland hospital.

Also welcoming the new baby home are siblings Jules, Eve, Reuben as well as grandma Collette.

Special birthday greetings go out to Jim Duncan who will celebrating his 80th birthday on Thursday, April 29.

Congratulations to Phil Doan who will be inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame in Calgary this coming October.

Floor curling was held in Big Valley. There were 18 teams with Paul Dietrich and his team from Big Valley placing third and Adolf Heier, Jacquie Dietrich, Irene Schilling and Rose Koenraadt placing sixth.

Kent and Evelyn Johnson visited with Evelyn’s aunt Virg in Gravelburg, Sk. and her brother and sister in law Alec and Deanna in Fort Qu Appelle, Sk. during the week.

Stan and Dorothy Anderson joined with family members in Castor on Saturday to celebrate the sixth birthday of their great-grandson, Colby Compton.

Mother’s Day pancake breakfast will be held at the hall on May 9.
