Help us help Haiti! That is the message HYC teens would like to send out to Stettler this month.

If you have been thinking of doing something to help out the rescue efforts, but are still feeling the financial pinch, this is a fantastic opportunity for businesses and residents to pitch in free of charge.

The teens are asking everyone bring in their empties from staff rooms, garages, recycling bins or anywhere else they may be stashed, with the money raised going directly to the Humanitarian Coalition (Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, CARE Canada & Save the Children Canada). The donations will aid in the Haiti rescue mission and also provide assistance to survivors and help the rebuilding efforts, ensuring long term support after the initial response. To sweeten the deal, the youth center is offering free pick up for businesses or events, just give the staff a call at 742-KIDS(5437) and your donation will be bagged and transported for you. The goal is to raise another $200 by January 30th, to match the $200 the teens raised over christmas, that was already ear marked for Oxfam Canada’s international development and humanitarian projects. They know you can do it Stettler.

On the annual Bowl for Kids front, there have been some pretty heavy hitters making challenges this week and the Stettler Town Council has officially accepted the HYC board’s challenge issued last week. Q14 has issued a challenge to this very publication, Scotia Bank is out for everyone and has issued challenges to all the local banks, and new comers Canadian Tire are testing their weight on WalMart. All local lawyers and accountants have also been put on notice, thanks to Landman Anderson Law Office and Pauline Christian Accountants. It’s bound to be a crazy night! Don’t forget that there will be prizes given out for thebest thematic and the most creative Olympic outfits for member and community teams. There are eight more spots available, so register soon for the Feb. 5 event and have an evening of fun with co-workers, family and/or friends, while helping out a great organization. Stay tuned for next week’s addition to find out who will be challenging who and who steps up to the plate.

There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else.
