Ann Creasey, Dale and Mandy Gonda and their daughter Casey all had their heads shaved for cancer last week.

Three local rinks entered the seniors’ floor curling bonspiel in Stettler on Monday. Curlers were Paul and Jacqui Dietrich, Irene Schilling and Dorothy Anderson; Adolf Heier, Rose Koenraadt, Edna Luft and Helen Heier; Anne Neilson, Elizabeth Raher, Dora Morasch and Olga Cox. A good time was had by all.

Hockey season ended last weekend for most of the youngsters. Players from our area (or with connections to our area) include Brady and Brandyn Baird, Owen Schauer, Devon Johnson, Trey McGillivray, Cade James, Morgan Jordal, Amie Rowland, Brayden Rowland, Garrett, Colby and Axton Compton, Geri, Landon and Boston Slemp all in Castor. Axel Bergstrum and Brandon Kent play in Stettler. JD Johnson and TJ Baird were coaches.

The Fowler foursome won the C event at the Oilmen’s Bonspiel in Rocky Mountain House last weekend. There were 80 teams curling on 10 sheets of ice (rink and arena) with six events. Congrats to Lee, who has been promoted to third this year, and who won a prize for curling at 75 per cent during the final game. Dad, Dan, keeps moving down the line and is now playing second.

Brittany Mabbott placed second in barrel racing at the college finals at Northlands in Edmonton on April 5. Brittany competed in six rodeos throughout the season placing in the top 10, which allowed her to compete at the finals. Congratulations.

Max Schaffner plays on the 16U Battle River volleyball team in Camrose. His team won the Olds tournament last weekend, will play in a few more tournaments and then head to provincials and nationals in May. Good going Max.

Scott and Stephanie Duncan with son Ethan from Calgary visited with Stephanie’s parents, Paul and Jacqui Dietrich at the weekend. They also visited with the Ashbachers so Ethan could see the baby lambs.

Several in the area have seen robins and bluebirds back in the area.

Coming up: April 7 –Hall board bingo; April 9-Elks annual Casino night at the hall; quilt ticket draw is fast approaching, anyone having tickets still out please finish selling them and get them back in.
