Byemoor Bull-a-Rama is almost here. Bull Bustin’ action goes on Friday, April 18, at the Endmoor Arena in Byemoor. Doors open at 6 p.m. with bull riding beginning at 7 p.m.  A family dance will follow.

The Byemoor Hotel is hosting a Beef Brisket supper with salads and trimmings from 4 – 7 p.m. on April 18. Be sure to come early for the Bull-a-Rama and enjoy the Hotel’s supper.

Winners of the Byemoor School Pork Raffle are Linda Payne from Stettler and Dale and Dee Green from Byemoor, each winning a side of pork. The pork was donated by Cliff, Jenelle, Briar, Ren and Orin James. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to the James family for their generosity.

Dale and Dee Green are home from a six-week winter vacation to the United States with their motorhome. They spent time in Utah, Colorado, Nevada, California, New Mexico and Arizona where they took in several new sights. They also had the opportunity to visit Dee’s uncle and aunt in Arizona.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Shirley Mappin who passed away on April 10 in Red Deer at 89 years of age. Shirley was a long-time resident of the Byemoor community before retiring to Stettler.

Shirley was one of ten children of Charlie and Ada (nee Jones) Nemetz. She was raised on a farm west of Byemoor, with siblings Josephine, May, Dave, Carl, Ruth, Eunice, Larry, Art and Sharon.

Shirley married Bill Mappin, and they farmed northeast of Byemoor, where they raised their four sons – Mike, Bruce, Greg and Rick.

Shirley was very artistically talented; a few of her many creations included designing the County of Stettler logo and painting the original Boehlke Pond sign. She also had a vast knowledge of antiques and was a keen collector of them.

Our thoughts are with Shirley’s sons and their families and the Nemetz family in their sad loss.

There was a good turn-out for the work bee at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre on April 12. Volunteers were busy cleaning and preparing the building for the upcoming Byemoor Centennial. The building was formerly the Byemoor High School and the Drop-In Centre will be open for tours at the Centennial celebration on June 7.

Byemoor School students are taking swimming lessons in Stettler for two weeks. Twila Buchwitz is driving the swimming bus for the majority of the days.

Byemoor 4-H Beef Club members held a Mock Achievement Day at the arena in Byemoor on April 13. Members learned and practiced techniques for showing and fitting their calves as they get ready for the Stettler District 4-H Show and Sale in May.

The hours of the Byemoor Landfill Transfer Station will be changing to summer hours after Easter. Starting Wednesday, April 23, the transfer station will be open Wednesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Please note that Byemoor Hotel will not be having a pizza night on Saturday, April 19, being on the Easter weekend.

Make sure to mark your calendars for these upcoming Mother’s Day events
