April is half over and that means that it is only two weeks until the Stettler Public Library hosts Fran Kimmel as part of the Write On! Writers workshop series, offered by the Parkland Regional Library thanks to funding from the Library Association of Alberta and the Writers Guild of Alberta.

Fran Kimmel will be presenting a workshop entitled “Speaking of Dialogues” on Wednesday, April 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fran will be exploring shortcuts for inventing exchanges between characters that move a story along. And she has the experience to back up what she will be passing on. She has delivered extensive writing, communications and personal development training sessions. Fran’s writing portfolio includes short fiction, radio drama, educational video and corporate writing. She has won a number of regional and national awards for short fiction, radio drama and business writing. Registration is limited to 16 spots, so register early by calling 403-742-2292 or by e-mailing spl@libs.prl.ab.ca. Soup and sandwiches will be provided.

Other libraries in the Parkland region are also hosting workshops and you are more than welcome to attend. Again registration is limited to 16 people per workshop. To find dates and information on the workshops at other libraries visit http://www.prl.ab.ca/write_on.

The snow is gone and with it the ice, and you are thinking that running or walking will be a good way to get some exercise but you don’t know where to start. Why don’t you check out what the Stettler Public Library has to offer for running and walking resources?

For example if you want to just start out slow with some walking we have “Walking and Light Running” by Dr. Klaus Bos and “Prevention’s Complete Book of Walking” by Maggie Spilner. However, if you don’t have time to read the information, why don’t you have the information read to you? We have two playaways in the collection that are just what you are looking: “Walk Away the Pounds” by Leslie Sansone and “You on a Walk” by Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz. These can be found in our audiobook collection.

If running is more your speed, check out “The Everything Running Book” by Art Liberman, “Running Start to Finish” by John Stanton, and “Running and Walking for Women over 40” by Kathrine Switzer. Also check out our selection of books on training for triathlons.

Don’t hesitate to ask for assistance finding any of the books that I have mentioned. The library staff is more than willing to assist you in finding the information that you need on running and walking or any other topic that strikes your fancy. Because of Parkland Regional Library and the Alberta Library, the Stettler Public Library has access to millions of items throughout the province and the country. We will help you find almost everything.
