Gadsby centennial celebration coming up

The good news is, summer has arrived. The bad news is now we start losing daylight time. Did anyone notice the longer days with all that cloud cover?

But the weather broke, the sun came out for the weekend and the walk for life was a huge success. Diane Baird was a spokesperson at the ceremonies and she and her son Kenny lit the torch. Lynn (Baird) Potter and the Sharebear’s won first prize for their “camp” tent. And there were several locals participating in the walk, either on foot or as a sponsor.

Rene Blackmore attended the wedding of Rod and Carol McLeod in the bride’s backyard in Lousanna. Carol is a childhood friend of Rene’s. The wedding had a Scottish theme, complete with kilts and fairies. A beautiful day for a beautiful wedding. Ray and Rene Blackmore are hosts to Ray’s cousins Chris and John from England for about ten days. They have been here before and are acquainted with several people here.

Welcome back to Canada folks.

Close to 40 people attended the monthly supper of the Gadsby District Hobby Club. A smaller than usual crowd but good for the amount of events going on in the surrounding neighbourhoods, including the Crazy Daze in Stettler, which were enjoyed by all.

Wednesday saw several people at the bank building as we plotted, by memory, the map of the past for the centennial. Plans are to mark the areas where Gadsby businesses were. These will be placed for the anniversary weekend. Also started were the posters of pictures we already have. We hope this is a start for many more to come. Remember, copies only. We are also looking for pictures of the 75th celebration and parade. Give me a ring or better yet, come to the next meeting which will be Monday, July 5 at the bank building, 7 p.m. We are finding this to be a great time to reminisce.

We are also looking for info and pictures of our past 4-H, Canadian Girls in Training, church and Sunday school, United Church Women, cowboys and cowgirls, school events, baseball, curling, etc.

Congratulations to Brandi and Codi Chick on the birth of their baby boy, Easton Lowell Chick. Proud grandparents are Greg and Nancy Chick of Gadsby.

Percy and Paulette Heer took Iona Berg up to Dawson Creek to visit her brother Bob and Betty Hankins, spending four days there. While there, they also were visited by nephew Allan and Cheri Hankins, Adrianna and Alisha.

Donna McKay and son Jim Stenberg also headed north last Friday to Eaglesham to visit Donna’s dad and mom, Gordon and Ann Donaldson and brother Greg. While there, Donna got her annual ride in her dad’s Model “T”, then on to Fairview to visit Donna’s sister Irma and Gary Partridge before returning home.
