It’s great to hear Barb Carey is doing well and recovering from hip surgery. Barb and Vic enjoyed a belated Christmas when son Wes and his son Lincoln Carey as well as the rest of their grandchildren: Taylor, Victoria and Jonah Jarmin who all came Saturday, January 6 for a day of food, fun and games. A great visit. On Christmas day Wes and son Lincoln joined Barb and Vic for Christmas dinner and on December 17 Wes and Lincoln, Jonah, and Victoria Jarmin were over to Barb and Vic’s for Wes’ birthday supper. A worthy note: Lincoln won a provincial football award as well as a team award recently. Way to go Lincoln!.

Donna McKay and the heartland Belles were busy throughout the season, ending with a Christmas dinner at the Pump Thursday, December 21. There were 12 ladies in all. Donna drove out for coffee and a visit with Paulette Heer just before Christmas.

Kerri and James Pothier had dinner out with close friends Ray Stevenson and Grant Beleau. Next day they attended the Night Before the Night Before festivities. They are now slowly (and sadly) taking down their light display.

A meeting with Sgt. Penney of the Stettler RCMP detachment is scheduled after receiving reports of an attempted vehicle theft in the town of Gadsby recently. A “slim jim” was unsuccessfully used to try and break into the vehicle and the door handle broke off. The description of a suspect vehicle that night matches other reports in the area. The village is urging everyone to please keep your houses and vehicles locked and watch for suspicious vehicles in and around the area. Two such vehicles are a 1998 pick up truck and a smaller dark color car.

On a lighter note, the 2018 dog tags are due for renewal in the village. Please let the council know if this no longer applies to you. Keep your pets warm and safe!

Gloria and Stan Diegel helped granddaughter Bridget Skocdopole celebrate her 15th birthday on Saturday night, January 6 with a family supper at Greg and Richelle’s, with Arden and Deanne and girls, Wade and Ybiett and family. Also a total of 26 family members gathered at Gloria and Stan’s for New Years Eve. They enjoyed a potluck “appies” night.

Frank and Eleanor Dahlgren had a busy Christmas season starting December 23. In the morning it was off to son Cecil and Pat’s for brunch with all their family home. Then dinner at daughter Bonnie and Duane’s and their family who were all home. On the 24, supper and gift opening at their place with 22 family members home. And January 1 daughter Brenda and five of her grandchildren arrived at Frank and Eleanor’s for a five-day visit. The best news is always new babies and Frank and Eleanor have had three new great grandchildren recently. On December 27 Dane and Holly Walgenbach had a baby boy, Jiro Dane, a brother for Skye and Aaden. Prior to this Brenda enjoyed two new grandbabies, Kinglsey (December 10) and Kimberly (November 25). This makes a total of 20 great grandchildren for Frank and Eleanor!

Donna Stadelmann picked up her Aunt Joyce Hansel and drove out to Metiskow for a baby shower for Joyce’s great granddaughter Sarah Trenerry on December 30. A rather cold drive, but sunny and the roads were good. Bill and Joyce enjoyed New Year’s supper at Grant and Judy Musgrove and family where they played all the new games the kids had gotten for Christmas. Prior to this Bill and Joyce helped Frank and Eleanor celebrate their anniversary on December 22. Also there was Gordie Jackson. Bill and Joyce spent an evening with Percy and Paulette Heer where once again the women won 4 out of 5 games of 500. However, Bill finished the night by winning a game of “sevens”.

Percy and Paulette Heer celebrated News Year’s Eve going for supper at The Club Café with Doug and Shirley McKay. After supper they headed out to Doug and Shirley’s for the evening. I might add, 2018 came in very cold!

Paulette and Percy received word of the passing of Paulette’s cousin Jack Green, formerly of Edmonton and more recently of Airdrie. They also learned that Jack’s wife Annette has had a lengthy stay in hospital in Calgary with blood clots to her legs. Jack and Annette spent many visits out at the farm with Paulette and Percy, which included helping with the Omega bazaar for several years running.

Get well wishes to Ronald Schwarzenberger who is in hospital in Stettler.
