The cute little ones- Dennis and Katie Turre were waiting for a calf but they were quite surprised to get three of them instead of one when the delivery was all over. All three calves are reported to be healthy.

Halkirk Herald

Congratulations to the Dan Fowler rink who won the Elks national curling championships at Hanna held March 16 to 19. The team, which included Dan along with sons Justin and Lee and Rocky Dahmer, defeated the Elk team from Hanley (near Saskatoon), in the final game. D.D. Our lodge sends congratulations to the Hanna Elk and Royal Purple lodges who were celebrating their 50 anniversary.

Local floor curling teams took part in bonspiels in Castor on Monday and in Endiang on St. Patrick’s day.

We are pleased to hear that the family of Yohei (Bill and Connie Turre’s Japanese exchange student) are all safe following the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. Yohei’s family lives about 100 km. from the nuclear power plant. This is the third year that the Turres have hosted students from Japan, and through face book and e-mail, all have reported that they are okay.

Special birthday greetings go out to Doris Fowler, who celebrated her 90th birthday with a party on Sunday, March 20 at the Stettler hospital atrium. Able to attend were Harry and Hazel Duncan, Farren, Stella and baby, all of Calgary; Dixie and Steve Kossowan and boys from Cochrane, Jean Plouvier from Castor, Jim Duncan from Stettler and Dan, Clara and family.

Today is the first day of spring, and with our residents having spotted geese, gophers etc. - can you tell me why it had to snow again?

A few friends from Halkirk attended the funeral services for Leona Whitley (Felzien) on Friday, north of Forestburg. At this time the family also held a memorial for Leona’s daughter, Brenda (Kneeland) Bell, who recently passed away in Chilliwack, BC. Sympathy is extended to the family.

Rose and Jan Koenraadt and their son Scott attended the 75th birthday party for Rose’s mother, Enida Stewart, held in Penhold on Saturday.

Kent and Evelyn Johnson have returned home from several weeks in Nevada and Arizona as well as a 10-day holiday in Mazatlan, where they visited with Evelyn’s brother and sister-in-law, Alec and Deanna Montbriand.

Les and Cathy Kneeland were in Red Deer on Friday, March 18 when the Kneeland family gathered to celebrate the wedding of sibling Tracy Kneeland to Blaine Dean. Congratulations.

Kim Turre from Camrose spent the weekend at home with parents Bill and Connie following a Bra Necessities business boot camp in Denver, Co.

Local farmers, Dennis and Katie Turre had quite the surprise the other day with one of their cows giving birth to triplets.

Does anyone have an old red knit curling sweater with the Halkirk crest on it? Dan Fowler has two and would love to get two more for his team when curling in neighbourhood bonspiels. Give him a call at 884-2297.

Unfortunately we had a wrong name in the curling news last week: Eugene Nixon was one of the winners. Sorry. Eugene.
