We have a special occasion coming up to celebrate something everyone has. I’m referring to mothers, not belly buttons.

Honouring your mother with a phone call, visit, or card is probably the most cherished gift you can give. Some of our upcoming craft classes offer the chance to make something special for the mothers in your life.

Check out program offerings like the kids’ Alcohol Ink Tiles, the teens’ May Clay Flowers, and Crystal’s Crafters’ pressed flower lanterns. Even if your gifts arrive late, Mom will appreciate the effort. See below for details.

Children:

“Richer than I you can never be, I had a mother who read to me,” wrote poet Strickland Gillilan. Supplement your family reading by bringing your child (infant to five years) to Read & Rhyme. We read stories, sing songs, and enjoy other word fun each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning at 10:30. And to keep the good times going, sign up for the free app 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and receive a small prize at the library as you reach your milestones.

Something Cool After School meets Thu, May 11 at 4 p.m. to make cake-in-a-mug. Get ready to use your funniest words at Super Silly Stories on Tue, May 16. Then on Thu, May 18, we’ll be experimenting with beautiful Alcohol Ink Art. Kids aged 6 and up are welcome.

Come out for a fun-for-all with our extensive collection of LEGO and enjoy creating alongside other builders. The Lego Club meets Sat, May 13 at 11 a.m. For ages 6+.

Individualized instruction is available for students K-Grade 12. If you need some one-on-one time to master your basic academic skills, why not call for an appointment? We have time slots Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays after school hours.

Teens & ’Tweens:

April showers bring May clay flowers and we’ll be making the most lifelike ones ever on Wed, May 17, at 4:30 p.m. Perfect for gift-giving! Ages 10 and up.

Adults:

Family and friends of alcoholics need emotional support and understanding. If you’re concerned about a loved one’s drinking, Al-Anon can help. We’ll host an introduction to the support group on Thu, May 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Join the sociable adults at Afternoon Friends for a rousing game of Bingo on Tue, May 16 at 1 p.m. You might win a prize!

Light up the night with a beautiful lantern made using pressed flowers and facial tissue for yourself or someone you love. Crystal’s Crafting Club meets on Thu, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. to get creative. Be sure to pre-register by calling the library as space is limited.

Relax on Zoom with Yoga Nidra on Thu, May 18 at 8 p.m. Don’t worry if you fall asleep, we will just end the session at the end of the night. Contact the library for the link you’ll need.

Developed by the Alzheimer Society, Minds in Motion is a program for those who find their memory slipping and those who care for them. We meet on Thursdays, 1-3 p.m. for an hour of light physical activity, cognitive games, socializing, and snacks. Everyone welcome.

This month, Reader’s Circle Book Club is reading, Remember: The Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting by Lisa Genova. There’s still time to pick up a copy and read the book before we meet on Tue, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. for another of our always-entertaining discussions. All are welcome.
