Final dine and dance well attended, many birthdays marked last week

Gadsby/Westwoods

The district was busy over the weekend with suppers and social evenings.

The Gadsby Ball Association was more than pleased with the great support and turn out for their final Dine and Dance on Saturday night. The event was held at the Westwoods Agrilot with over 150 hungry people for supper. Reports tell me it was a delicious meal. More came for the dance and the dance floor was soon full. The silent auction was a huge success with lots to bid on, thanks to the generosity of those who donated. Many door prizes were won.

Meanwhile in Gadsby, the monthly supper was humming with close to 40 seniors and family members. It was great to begin a new year with a hope of better weather ahead (coming home that evening I had six rabbits in our driveway... but they were all still very white! And there are still wolves being reported in the county).

The loonie pot at the Bingo Saturday night did not go and continues to grow, well above the $100 mark. The next supper and Bingo will be held April16 with a ham supper. More details to follow.

Alicia Glasier has enjoyed a winter of helping at several scrapbooking courses held through her workplace in Stettler. They are now situated in the old Laundrymat/bus depot and she encourages all interested to come out for a fun day or evening class.

Also on Saturday, Frank and Eleanor Dahlgren headed to the home of Dallas and Cindy McAllister, Innisfail, to help celebrate great grandson Dallon’s third birthday. About 30 family and friends were in attendance.

It was a birthday weekend for Rene Blackmore. Friday night friends Ken and Donna as well as Doug and Teena were there for supper and the evening. Saturday overnight company were Rene’s long time girlfriends Tami and Joanne from Red Deer. Joining them for supper were Dave and Jill. Then on Sunday night, family supper saw sons Robert, Travis, Leanne and Jack. Happy birthday, Rene!

Smitty and Lavonne attended Lavonne’s cousin Chuck Carless’ funeral on Saturday. Chuck grew up in the Hackett area south of Gadsby/Botha.

Funeral services were held at St. George’s Anglican church in Stettler. Chuck was 67 years old
