Farewell potluck dinner for Shultzes

Big Valley Bulletin

By Lynne Palmer

Canada Day was pretty quiet in Big Valley, except for the fireworks display put on by Mel Dodds, Donnie Walker, and Brian Kim. Those who didn’t go to the ball diamond were able to watch from home and from the hill by the golf course. Anybody I talked to thought it was pretty darn good for a small community.

Scott and Jenny Shultz have booked the Drop-in Centre for July 23, 5 p.m. for a pot luck dinner with all their friends, from the community. Scott and Jenny are leaving our community to move to the Sherwood Park area at the end of July. They will be missed by all. Jenny has been the editor of the whistle since 2006 and has done an excellent job. Please confirm your attendance with Jenny 403-876-2287.

I think that most people think the kids in town need a place to do their dirt biking. But when evidence shows that some of those kids are destructive and cruel, it makes it hard for the people to not agree to that area be closed down to the bikers. We found a bird house that had been torn down between holes 7 and 8 on the golf course, the lid ripped off and 5 fully- feathered baby birds smashed with a rock. So far there is only a bit of evidence, but eventually somebody will remember seeing something. Also the window in the golf clubhouse was pried open, and the garbage can knocked over with garbage on the floor. It’s hard to reason why this keeps happening, there is nothing of any value ever left in the clubhouse. And I wonder why.

There will be a Kids’ Computer Club at the Big Valley Library, Fridays July 10- Aug. 14 noon to 3:30 p.m. No adults allowed.
