Family fun ’spiel went ahead, skating cancelled due to weather

Ten teams entered the Erskine Family Fun Bonspiel this past weekend.

Besides having fun curling, there were lots of other fun games going on, dime toss, bingo, raffles, and a concession. Every family went home with a smile, and lots of prizes.

The family skate party was canceled due to the extreme cold weather. It will be rescheduled at a future date.

CARA curling for junior high school was held in Coronation this year. Erskine School took three teams to CARA. Carly Armstrong, Carly Bignell, and Darren Gendre, came home with Bronze.

Erskine wrestling team attended the South Elementary Festival, and Junior Provincial Olympics this past weekend in Olds. Competitors attending for the first time were Justin Matchett, Meghan Matchett, Carson Neitz, Curtis Poffenroth, Isaac Lee, and Jacquie Staples.

Those who came home with gold were Carlie Gendre, Darren Gendre, Brandon Marshall, Allyson Marshall, and Adam Nixon. Silver winners were Tim Gardner, Tyler Matchett, and Luke Poffenroth. Bronze winners were Brett Coleman and Austin Peterson.

The Erskine wrestling team took at total of 18 competitors to the tournament.

The next wrestling tournament is on March 12 in Cochrane.

Women’s Erskine bonspiel starts on Feb. 28.

Our sympathy is sent out to Craig, Kent and Rod Armstrong in the passing of their mother Lorrie.

Birthday wishes go out to Declan McCord Feb. 23, and Jennifer Marshall Feb. 24.
