Fall is on its way and we have programs planned for every age group.

But, if you’re heading out travelling for one last hurrah of the summer this Labour Day weekend, check out our large collection of audiobooks and board games to make the miles fly by. If a staycation is more your speed, why not take advantage of one of our circulating family passes for free access to the gym and swimming pool? Simply call us to reserve your spot.

Plan ahead to put September’s Film Circuit selection on your calendar. We’ll be showing Thelma on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. “After getting conned by a scammer pretending to be her grandson, Thelma teams up with an old friend on a wild adventure to take back what’s hers.” Our concession will be open, so make it a date!

Children:

Once school starts, there’s also Something Cool After School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. You need a perky, prickly pet like the DIY cactus you’ll make on Sept. 3. Bet you can’t pop the bubbles we’ll make on Sept. 5, but we’ll have a lot of fun trying! Ages 6+.

Give your preschooler a head start in language skills by bringing them to Read & Rhyme on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. where they’ll enjoy stories, songs, and fun activities with other little ones and their parents.

Be sure to track your family reading with 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and receive a small prize once you reach your milestones. Ask the staff about this wonderful program.

Teens & ’Tweens:

There’s been a death, and it’s your job to find the killer. Autopsies must be performed…on pickles! Join us for Crime Scene Investigation at the library and test your detective skills on Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. Ages 10 and up.

Dungeons & Dragons is an adventure in telling stories, role play, and imagination. Join us each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. for fun with Jasper. We’ll have snacks to fuel your quest.

Adults:

Afternoon Friends has an artistic Tuesday planned on Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. when we’ll be creating chalk pastel sunflowers. Come colour with us!

Book a spot in Crystal’s Craft Club for Sept. 5 when we’ll fashion a blooming bouquet of felt roses. Call the library to pre-register for a fun night out.

Make Minds in Motion part of your weekly Thursday schedule at 1 p.m. this fall. This program of the Alzheimer Society offers some light exercises followed by cognitive games to sharpen the mind and body for anyone experiencing memory lapses. Caregivers are encouraged to join in on the fun, too.

Next month’s Reader’s Circle book club selection is Indians on Vacation by Canadian Indigenous author, Thomas King, an “unforgettable tale of one couple’s holiday in Europe, where their wanderings through its famous capitals reveal a complicated history, both personal and political.” We’ll meet Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the book.

Al Anon is here to help if you have someone in your life who drinks to excess. Come to a meeting on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. for support, encouragement, and strategies for your recovery.

All Ages:

Have you found yourself bewildered by technology and the wide array of social media? We at the library are happy to help. Call for an appointment and learn to navigate your smartphone, tablet, or other electronic device.

If there’s a plastic item you’d like to replace, why not consult with our tech expert, Shaun, and see if something can be created with our 3D printer.
“Alas, summer sun can’t last forever. The days will grow cooler and shorter, and our skin will once again grow pale.” ~Sarah MacLean

For more information or to register for any of the above programs, call the library at 403-742-2292.
