Exciting days for teens

An ordinary day – This “radically funny” photo depicts just one of the “Radically Awesome Days” at the heartland youth centre

July 8 was a memorable day for several lucky HYC members. Stettler Flying Club donated half hour flights for 18 children to our Awesome Auction, which was held on June 6. This donation was purchased by Barb and Steve Wilford, and Les and Deb Schwartz, allowing our youth members to take to the sky two weeks ago. Pilot Dwayne Sutton flew the excited participants in his Cessna aircraft around the town and county of Stettler, giving them a birds eye view of their homes and Buffalo Lake.

RAD summer program had a Wet N’ Wild week. Participants took advantage of the sunshine and indulged in numerous water fights, slip n’ slide activities, trips to the local swimming pool and Wild Rapids in Sylvan Lake.

Children and leaders are going “Nature Nuts” this week as they catch bugs in the park, and get up close and personal with some amazing animals at the Edmonton Zoo. They will also be teaming up for some HYC Survivor Island competitions and enjoying a picnic in the park. If you are 6-12 and would like to join your friends for some fun filled summer days, please call Baylee at 403-742-5437.

Teen Trips is very excited to be offering a girls-only camping trip August 11-13. For only $35, you can participate in this three day adventure in beautiful Nordegg. We will be exploring some back country trails, waterfalls and deep gorges. Leaders will be teaching skills such as shelter building, emergency first aid and wilderness survival. Cost includes transportation, camping, food and supplies. To register for this great team building opportunity please call 403-742-5437.

Spaces are still available for teens to participate in activities on July 24 (dinner and movie in Red Deer), July 30 (hike and coal mine in Drumheller), August 5 (Lacombe Corn Maze), and August 21 (BBQ and games).
