Erskine Sports Day and parade were great fun

This past weekend was filled with lots of activities for families to do. Friday started out with many Erskine and area people organizing and participating in the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser in Stettler. Patti Standage, Nick Nibourg, Marie Glover, Wendy Volker, Ivy Bredy, Jodi McCord, and Candace Ryder are just some of our area’s participants who helped out with the event.

Saturday Erskine Sports Day started out with the ever popular parade with winners for the walking category going to, first, Isaac and Alicia Nibourg and the family pet horse “Support our Troops” banner; second to the Corpataux’s “Sandan” farm wagon pulled by their pet dog. Bike/Wagon winners were: First place-Homestead Campsite Mini Model T Car, second place the paintball wagon. In the comic/originality category, first placed was O’Shea’s Model A, second was antique jeep. In duo/trio/group category, first place went to Sherry’s Scrapbooking group, and second to the trio of “Stereos” fans. Best commercial float went to the County of Stettler and best non-commercial float went to the Erskine Rec Board’s ship.

Erskine Evangelical Free Church’s Good Neighbor Barbecue was a hit again with yummy hamburgers, hot dogs and pop.

Thanks to all who volunteered in supplying the food, cooking, and preparing it. It was a great treat for the afternoon.

The day was filled with the Hot Diggity Dog show, games, road hockey, and baseball game.

The traditional evening barbecue was held in the IOOF Hall this year and went over smoothly with great food and a fun scavenger hunt for the young kids.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Sports Day events and food preparation.
