The Erskine 4-H Beef Club has had a very busy winter.
We have 8 clever members; they are Jack Chapman, Bria Riggins, Khylin Haustein, Meyer and Charlie Rowledge, Wynne Henderson, Rhett Shaw and Claire Bullick. Luke Henderson, Bennett Rowledge, Kate Chapman and Lily Bullick are the 4 junior members. For Intermediate members we have Branson Chapman, Denver Shaw, Dayton Wilson, and Addisyn Hogg. 6 senior members are in our club -Chance Morbeck, Brooklyn Smith, Mackenna Hogg, Rayell and Jaydon and Aryann Haustein.
On Feb. 26, our club had public speaking at Erskine School. All Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors spoke, yet only the top two moved on from each age group.
In Juniors, the first-place speaker was Bennett Rowledge, with Luke Henderson in second. The first-place Intermediate was Denver Shaw, followed by Addisyn Hogg. For Seniors Speaking, Mackenna Hogg was first.
For presentations, Lily Bullick got first. First place in Intermediate was awarded to Dryton Haustien. Aryann Haustien won for Seniors along with Jaydon Haustien in second. These speakers then moved to the district level.
In districts, none of our prepared speakers placed in the top two to move on, but three members doing presentations did. Dryton Haustien got second in Intermediate, Jaydon Haustien got first in Seniors and Aryann placed second. These three moved on to the Regional level.
In Regionals, Dryton Haustien again placed first in Intermediate. Aryann and Jaydon Haustien again placed first and second and will continue to represent our club at provincials. Congratulations!
On Apr 30, 2023, we will have a mock achievement day in Stettler at the Agriplex.
We will work on grooming and showmanship. It is a great time to get our steer used to travel and noise with all the other steers and heifers and a big show ring. Crystal from Stettler Auction Mart will be coming to take videos with our animals. These videos will later be posted on the Stettler Auction Mart website for all our buyers and families to see.
We are all looking forward to the achievement day and sale, which will occur on the 23 and 24 of May 2023. Heifer Day is on May 23 while Sale and Steer Day is on May 24.
