Erskine 4-H Beef Club News – May 2022

By Luke Henderson

With the lifting of COVID restrictions all 16 members of the Erskine 4-H Beef Club have been able to resume activities.

This year our club president is Rayell Haustein, our vice president is Hannah Van Straten, our treasurer is Aryann Haustein, and our secretary is Kayla Robertson. However, let’s not forget our two hard working leaders Amanda Haustein and Sarah Chapman.

For community service we have cleaned up the Erskine Cemetery and sorted eye glasses to be donated to foreign countries at Hauck’s Vision and Hearing.

The 1st Annual Erskine Corn Hole Tournament which is coming up on the weekend of May 27-29 is where our club will be volunteering at the concession.

Along with community service, Erskine has been doing fundraisers too.

Recently we cleaned up around the Edberg landfill and we are planning to go back again in June. We are also conducting a bottle drive at the Erskine Corn Hole Tournament. We will have several trailers parked near the curling rink and will be accepting donations.

All of our members participated in communications events like public speaking and demonstrations.

Congratulations to district and regional winners Kayla Robertson (senior), Chance Morbeck (senior), Aryann Haustein (intermediate), Dryton Haustein (intermediate), and Lily Bullick (junior).

Some of our members have also been completing a canine obedience course at San Dan Charolais with Joy Corpataux.

Like usual our Stettler District 4-H Beef show and sale is on May long weekend. The female show will be at 2:00 P.M. on May 23 at the Stettler Agriplex. Erskine has 6 yearling heifer projects, 4 two-year-old cow-calf-pairs, 2 three-year-old cow-calf-pairs, and 2 herds. The steer show starts at 9:00 A.M. on May 24. Spectators are welcome!

The Erskine club will be selling 15 market steers and 4 carcass steers (carcass steers are sold privately). The sale will be held in person and online at 7:00 p.m. on May 24. All 4-H members in our district have worked very hard to raise quality beef for our friends, family and neighbors and we hope you will consider purchasing a 4-H steer this year. More sale details are available at the Stettler Auction Mart website. Hope to see you at our show and sale!
