Volunteers have completed refurbishing the mural that’s on the west side of the Endmoor Drop-In Centre.

The mural depicts Byemoor’s business section from the early years. It was originally painted by Phyllis Starling in 2000, but during the 25 years since, it had become badly faded, prompting the restoration project, which began last fall. It was recently finished just in time for the Byemoor Centennial, and now the wall also includes the addition of “Celebrating 100 Years.” Hats off to the volunteers; the mural looks amazing.

Theresa Christie was recently recognized at the Clearview Public Schools Awards evening for 25 years of service. That is a lengthy milestone well worth celebrating — Congratulations, Theresa.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Gladys Groat, who passed away on May 22 at the age of 90 years. Gladys married Jack Groat in 1954, and they spent the early years of their marriage in Endiang, where they operated the Endiang Trading Co. general store. Later, Jack was a grain elevator agent in Endiang.

They had two daughters while in Endiang, Bev and Colleen, before moving to Stettler, where a third daughter Aileen, was born.

After relocating to Stettler, Gladys had a long career with AGT (Alberta Government Telephones) and also spent time with Stettler FCSS.

Jack and Gladys would spend the rest of their lives in Stettler until their passing, but kept in touch with their Endiang friends and family over the years.

Our thoughts are with Gladys’ family and friends in their sad loss of this fine lady.

Lynnette Schellenberg and Sue Rausch have returned from a two-week vacation to England, Scotland and Wales. They flew to London and from there were on a bus tour where they enjoyed seeing many famous sights throughout the UK.

A highlight for Lynnette was a visit to the Isle of Skye, where Lynnette’s McCaskill family originated. The island, with its rugged landscapes, is connected to Scotland’s north coastline by a bridge.

Another interesting stop was St. Andrew’s golf course in Scotland, the world’s oldest golf course. Golf originated in Scotland in the 15th Century, making Scotland the “home to golf” for 600 years.

Lynnette and Sue enjoyed their many new experiences in the UK and they were also fortunate to have good weather for the trip.

Julie Jones, along with her daughter and family, Dixie, Curtis and Holden Zorn, enjoyed a four-day trip to Toronto. They took in two Toronto Blue Jays games, and the Jays won them both. They also visited Niagara Falls, the Hockey Hall of Fame and various other sights in Toronto. It was a fun trip where Holden got to celebrate his 14th birthday.

There was a good turnout for the Seniors’ Week coffee party at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre on June 3. Folks played several hands of cards before enjoying the coffee party with the fruit tray supplied by the County of Stettler, along with Timbits.

Congratulations to Addison Charbonneau, a long-time member of the Byemoor 4-H Beef Club, who was among the graduates of Gus Wetter High School in Castor.

We wish you all the best in all your future endeavours, Addison.

There will be a Bridal Shower for Elizabeth Strang, bride-elect of Gunnar Keith, on Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at the Byemoor Community Hall. Ladies please bring lunch and your favourite recipe.

Note, the Byemoor Hotel will be closed from June 10 – 14 and will re-open on June 17.
