Endiang Hall hosting Fathers’ Day breakfast

A Father’s Day pancake breakfast is set for the Endiang Hall on June 17. The breakfast goes from 9 – 11 a.m. and is put on by the Endiang Community Society. Be sure to come out and treat dad on his special day.

Members of the Byemoor and Big Valley 4-H Beef Clubs had a few busy days showing their heifer and steer projects at the Stettler District 4-H Show on June 4-5 at the Stettler Agriplex.

Congratulations to Hannah Elines of the Big Valley club on showing the Grand Champion Steer and to her brother Eric Elines on exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Steer of the show.

Congratulations to Addison Charbonneau on showing the club champion steer and to Natalie Schilling who exhibited the club reserve champion for the Byemoor club. Congratulations to all the members on their successes with their projects and the experience gained in the 4-H program.

Keep in mind the Seniors’ Week coffee party at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre in Byemoor on June 14 at 2 p.m. The event is open to all ages to come and recognize the contribution of the seniors in our community.

In Big Valley they are honouring the seniors a little later with a noon luncheon on June 21 at the Big Valley Drop-In Centre. The county is providing a fruit tray at both events.

A bridal shower is planned for Shauna Wing, bride-elect of Devon Mappin, on June 24 at 2 p.m. in the Byemoor Community Hall. Ladies please bring lunch.

Best wishes to Bill and Linda Smith on the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary on June 1. Congratulations on this golden milestone and all the best for many more, Bill and Linda.

The Clark family held a reunion at the Byemoor Hall on the weekend. The family has no connection to the Byemoor community but like to gather at different locations throughout Alberta for their reunions and this time chose Byemoor as it was fairly central.

Vel Gore from Westbank, B.C. is visiting with her Boehlke cousins and friends in the community. Vel has planned a two-month stay here.

Vi McCarty is having a complete dispersal of her Saddle and Leatherwork Shop by auction on June 23 at 11 a.m. The sale goes at Vi’s farm two miles south and a quarter mile east off of Hwy 589 between Byemoor and Big Valley. In addition, antiques, collectables and farm equipment will also be sold.

Congratulations to Jackson Sunstrum, formerly of Endiang, who was among the 2018 graduates of the Drumheller high school. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours, Jackson.

Jayme Laak, a former Byemoor girl, is currently in Africa where she is doing volunteer work in Zambia. Good for you, Jayme.

Gordon Duncan has returned to his home in Idaho after spending about six weeks with his sister Lynne and Miles Jones and family. Gord enjoys helping out with the spring crop seeding. He also visited with his mother Irene Duncan and sister Wendy Blauel in Stettler.

Miles and Lynne Jones and family also enjoyed a two-week visit from their daughter Carrie MacDougal and her four children from Osoyoos, B.C.

Congratulations to a former Endiang couple, Art and Lucy Gutsche, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 5. Best wishes for many more happy years, Art and Lucy.

The County of Stettler is hosting a town hall meeting at the Byemoor Hall on June 21 at 7 p.m. for the southern portion of the County. Input is welcomed on the 2019 Budget and local issues and updates will be given on Cannabis legislation.

The Strawberry Tea at the Scapa Hall on June 4 saw a full house, with over 110 ladies in attendance.

In Byemoor School news — On May 31 the Byemoor kindergarten class hosted Grandma’s Day at the school. The little ones were proud to have their grandma’s attend.

The kindergarten class enjoyed a year-end field trip on June 5 to J and J Marine Life in Red Deer and the Wildlife Discovery Park in Innisfail. Mrs. Erin Wilkie took the class on this educational trip.

The Grade 5-6 students were bussed by Rosemary Stulberg to Circle Square Ranch north of Halkirk for Grade 5-6 Camp on June 6-8. Mrs. Tara Hallet went as the teacher chaperone.

Byemoor School Spring Concert is at the school gym on June 15 at 1:15 p.m. The concert features a program and the kindergarten graduation.

The Grade 9 Farewell is on June 18.

Cleaview School Division held its Recognition Awards Night on June 7 in Stettler. Congratulations to Linda Kobi and Joan Grover on receiving recognition of 25 years of service. Linda has devoted all 25 years to the Byemoor School as a librarian, teaching aide and secretary.

Joan was a former teacher at Byemoor School and Byemoor Colony School and now teaches at Erskine Colony School.

Doug Griffith, a former-teacher at Byemoor, is the 2018 recipient of Clearview’s Award of Merit. Congratulations, Doug.

Ladies Gown Golf Gala sponsored by the Big Valley Ladies Community Club is set for Friday, June 15 at the Big Valley golf course. Women are invited to put on a dress and enjoy some best-ball format golf and just have fun. Supper is at 5 p.m. and golf at 6 p.m. Contact Jenni at 403-876-2558 or Carmen at 403-740-6574 to pre-register.

Be sure to take in the Big Valley Show ‘n Shine and Street Dance on Saturday, June 16. The parade starts at 4 p.m. followed by the dance at 6 p.m. There will also be activities for children, vendors and a BBQ with music by Six Finger Fritz.

There will be an Antique, Collectible and Vehicle Auction for Allan and Nora Saar at the Big Valley Agriplex on Saturday, June 16. Sale starts at 11 a.m.

Parkland Geo has been contracted by the Village of Big Valley to do a geotechnical slope study of the Blue Church hill to check the stability of the hill.

Big Valley Drop-In Centre’s meeting and potluck lunch is planned for noon on June 21. Starting June 1 the centre is open for coffee Monday to Friday.

The Big Valley Elk’s Memorial Golf Tournament held on May 27 saw 30 golfers come out. The team of Chuck Houston, Chris and Rowan Laisnez come out with the top honours.
