Elks’ provincial president visited Halkirk

HALKIRK HERALD -- The Alberta Elks Provincial President, Keith McKinnon, visited at the Halkirk lodge at the March 1 regular meeting.

HALKIRK HERALD -- The Alberta Elks Provincial President, Keith McKinnon, visited at the Halkirk lodge at the March 1 regular meeting. Castor and Hanna lodges joined with Halkirk members for a social prior to the meeting. Donations have been made and will be presented to the Halkirk Hall, Valley Ski Club, Circle Square ranch, PCALC (Paintearth County Adult Learning Council), Ladies of the Heartland and ISTAR. Alberta Elks foundation donation was made to President McKinnon.

A couple of our lodge members took the traveling gavel to the Royal Purple/ Elks meeting in Stettler last week. The Elks are also collecting Tabs for Tots (pop can tabs and other small pieces of metal ) Drop off at the Hall.

The whole school attended the Hockey – Hooky day at Rexall Place in Edmonton last Monday for an Edmonton Oil Kings game. Enroute home the stopped in Camrose for a bowling game and to enjoy pizza. Everyone said it was great day.

Floor curling last week was in Endiang. They held a Sadie Hawkins Day, the curlers from Halkirk were Anne Neilson, Rose Koenraadt, Wendy Ashbacker and Edna Luft.

Trevor from the County visited the Grade 4 to 6 classroom on Wednesday on behalf of CAP (Classroom Agriculture Program) where they learned many interesting facts and figures about animals, grains, seeds and weeds on the farm.

Jr. High basketball CARA playoffs were held in Stettler on Saturday. Our girls' team placed second and will compete in CWAJHAA 's in Rocky Mountain House on March 12. The boys placed fourth. Congrats to both team and their coaches on a successful season.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Jack Anderson, who passed away on March 5 in the Castor Hospital. A memorial is planned for March 26 in Halkirk.

Sympathy is extended to Allen and Laura Gamroth and girls on the passing of Laura's grandmother, Margret Brightman from Valemount, BC on Feb. 29. Services will be held at a later date.

We send out a happy birthday to Shirley Jacques, who celebrated her 65th birthday with a gathering of family and friends at the seniors' centre on Saturday. The room was tastefully decorated in a '50s theme.

Ryan Dalmer, skip of the RDC men's curling foursome defeated Lakeland college to enable them to advance to nationals in London, On. starting on the 22nd. Ryan was named as ACAC (Alberta College Athletic Conference) as skip. Congratulations and good luck at nationals!
