Early signs for a great tourism season

BIG VALLEY BULLETIN -- Spring is fast approaching and everyone seems to be out and about enjoying the marvelous weather.

According to information from the Historical Society, there have been lots of visitors exploring the roundhouse area, hinting at the increase in tourist traffic the village will soon be experiencing. The first train is scheduled to arrive on Saturday, May 14 and by then the tourist season will be full upon us. New train schedules are now available at various locations around the village. They are a great source of information regarding the special scheduled events we can look forward to this coming year.

The Big Valley Legion will be holding their annual St. Patrick's Stew Day on Thursday, March 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall.

The Big Valley United Church extends a warm invitation to their Easter season worship services. On March 20, Palm Sunday services are at 11 a.m. On March 25, Good Friday services with the Erskine United Church Choir begin at 7 p.m. and Easter Sunday services are at 11 a.m. on March 27.

At the drop-in centre, there will be a pancake supper on Monday, March 21 beginning at 5:30 p.m. This is a community event and everyone is welcome. Activities for seniors include Sunday crib beginning at 1:30 p.m., Monday night cards at 7 p.m. and Friday afternoon floor curling at 1:30 p.m.

The Big Valley Hall Board holds their weekly Bingo every Thursday evening, beginning at 7 p.m. at the community hall.

Big Valley artists meet for painting at the station every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Big Valley Inn crib players meet at the Inn every Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The Big Valley Golf Club will hold their annual general meeting on Monday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at the Golf Club House.

Alberta Health Services brings to Big Valley their Better Choices, Better Health ® Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop. Do you have a chronic condition like diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure, chronic pain, obesity or others? Better Choices, Better Health ® is a workshop available both online and in-person that helps you take control of your health. This workshop will be held at the Big Valley Train Station from 9 to 11:30 a.m. every Friday from April 1 to May 6. To register call Dorothy at the Big Valley Village Office 403-876-2269.
