Drop-in day switched to Wednesdays for the summer

Seeding in our area has come to a standstill again with a localized hail storm that went through on Thursday, May 20. It didn’t cover a large area, but those of us that got it left 1 3/10 inch of moisture behind. High winds and hail lasted 10 to 15 minutes and left washed out places in our freshly seeded field. Life is so interesting sometimes.

Monday, May 17, ladies went to St.Mary’s Health Care Center in Trochu to host the regular monthly birthday party. There were five residents having birthdays this month. Earle Gibson, Elsie Painter, George Upton, Florence Clemmins, and Tom Lynch. Each person received a small useful gift courtesy of the Rumsey Ag. Society. Pat Hatt was the hostess this month and had Ray Duft playing guitar and singing as the entertainment. We are ever so grateful to those who are willing to share their talents so that others may enjoy.

The third Monday in June will be the next party at the lodge and Jill Brodi has agreed to bring some of her show animals to Trochu so that the residents can see them. The party will be in the gazebo area of the hospital. Pat Holowath will be heading up the day. Anyone who is at all able is asked to come and help with the residents as they are moved from their rooms to the picnic area. This is in the afternoon beginning about 1:30 p.m.

As many of you know, Kevin and Betty Lario live at Sylvan Lake and they live on Wild Rose Drive, which is the location of the huge fire that was there this week. They are fine and their property was not damaged, but it was too close for comfort. The fire was also located fairly close to our relatives that live there. Their property was not damaged, either, but the heat from the fires could be felt for a long ways.

Keep in mind the deadlines for registering for Bar Harbour United Church Camps coming up this summer. These camps are for all ages and are held at different times throughout the summer. More information can be obtained from www.barharbourcamp.com or phone me and I will help you out. I have all the information here.

Some dates to be reminded of are: 4-H calf show and sale in Delia, Monday, June 7; Morrin High School Grad, Friday, June 11 with the banquet being held in Rumsey and the rest of the evening in the Morrin School; the homecoming that is being planned for July 16-18. The grads for 2011 will be having the concession at the homecoming to begin raising fund for their grad next year. Among the many events this summer, the date of the 2010 flower show is Wednesday, August 25 in the Rumsey Agri-plex.

At the drop-in center this week a mini meeting was held to move the day of drop-in to Wednesdays for the summer months. From the first of May until the end of October, drop-in will be on Wednesdays and the winter months beginning November first for six months, drop- in will be on Thursdays.

A few weeks ago, there was a trailer home moved into Rumsey on the lots on the hill. We welcome the new residents but haven’t met them yet.

Ball games continue in full force nearly every night of the week. If it is not a game, it is a practise.

Our two folks in the district with their new knees are out and about but not running any races yet. Judy Stoneman and John Griffith live in the same area of the district, so it makes you wonder what they’ve been up to.

Many folks know Anita Davi of Big Valley. We wish her best wishes as she spends time in Calgary hospital. Get well soon, Anita. Summer is here and the birds are singing.
