Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Rumsey community hall, funeral services were held for George (Bud) Upton. Rev. Pat Dyson of Trochu United Church conducted the service with Faith Henkel of Trochu St. Mary’s Health Care Center supplying the music. It was a very nice afternoon, fitting for a past farmer with the smell of harvest in the air and a nip in the breeze. Just as the committal service was over, a large tractor went by on the road as if to say ‘goodbye’.

Members of the northwest corner club where the Uptons lived prior to moving to Trochu St. Mary’s, served a buffet of refreshments for all to enjoy while visiting with the family and friends. Kathryn Kane Upton gave the eulogy for her father-in-law and did a fine job of telling of the events in Bud’s life. It was very nice that Myrtle was able to be well enough that day to travel by handibus from her residence at St. Mary’s Extended Care. With members of her nursing staff all around her, she was able to stay for the whole afternoon.

When we arrived home from the service, a phone call came from my sister Crystal Primrose of Strathmore saying that her daughter, Glenda had passed away in the early afternoon, having suffered a heart attack. Glenda was living with her daughter Danielle and Daryl in Vancouver following a stroke a couple of weeks ago.

Glenda turned 61 years old on Sept. 4. Danielle is her only child. She is also survived by her Mom Crystal of Strathmore, her sibblings, Donita (Robert) Young, of Whitecourt and their family, Douglas Primrose of Edmonton and his family at Grand Prairie, Marion (Bill ) Flecher of Calgary and their family, Anita (Rob) McCormick and family of Lac La Biche.

Glenda is also a niece to the Primrose families that live in this area as her Dad was Glen Primrose who passed away a year ago.

Glenda is also survived by her cousins, who joined the family following the death of their mother and dad in 1967/1969, Marie and Bill Shymanski.

Twena is at Rockyford, Bill in Drumheller, Annie at Didsbury, and Jennie Leigh at LacLa Biche. There has been cremation and no service will be held.

Ernie and I had the opportunity to attend the birthday brunch on Sunday to celebrate the 100th birthday of a dear man, Dr. Aeillo from Drumheller. He was my family doctor since the late 40s and delivered two of our children.

The party was held at the Inn. Dr. Aeillo is of good health being able to walk into his party on the arm of his family displaying his usual whit. It was a great honor to be able to attend and celebrate with such a great man.

School is now in full swing and we have four little ones beginning their education in kindergarten in Morrin. It was nice to learn that the new principal of the Morrin School is Don Yavis. Congratulations to you Don, you will be a good one.
