Dog demos wow district ladies

.

Rumsey Record

On Monday, June 20 the ladies from this district went to Trochu to host the regular monthly meeting at St. Mary’s Health Care Centre. Donna Sengaus was the hostess this month and she had many helpers as the residents were transferred outside to the park to view the dog demonstrations. Jill Brodie of Rumsey has trained dogs and shows in Calgary next month when the stampede is on. She also holds dog training sessions there. The residents and volunteers alike enjoyed the performance of the dogs herding the ducks into their patterns and corralling them at the end of the show.

Everyone was moved inside and Raft Duft and his friends were playing music and singing for the enjoyment of the residents. There were seven residents having June birthdays: John Hayward, Dave Wagstaff, Alma Tolman, Willie Tensen, Everna Corry, Isabell Tetz and Lilly Tetz.

Hostess for July is Kendra Kiemele. The group “Memory Lane” from Three Hills will be on hand to entertain. Mark your calendar and plan to attend on July 18.

Chris and Meredith Gerdung were married earlier this summer and had a wonderful weekend of celebrations. The Rumsey community gathered money for their gift in lieu of a shower. Chris and Meredith would like to thank everyone in the Rumsey and surrounding communities for their thoughtfulness and warm wishes in the form of their monetary gift on their wedding. It was heartwarming to know that so many people were thinking of them. Also, thanks to those people who gave cards and gifts for them directly to his family here in Rumsey.

Some folks who gave so generously to the monetary gift may be interested in knowing that Chris received his Doctor of Medicine degree at the spring convocation of the University of Alberta in Edmonton held at the Jubilee Auditorium. He was one of 140 other young men and women from across Canada to receive this degree from the U of A. after eight years of study. He is currently doing his residency at Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa and will complete this residency program in four years. Meredith, a physiotherapist is also currently employed at a different hospital in Ottawa.

Saturday, June 25 was the day of the 2011 Morin graduation ceremonies. The banquet was held in the Rumsey community hall at 5 p.m. with the rest of the evening beginning with the grand march at 8 p.m.

For anyone planning to take in the Munson centennial celebrations, July 8-10, activities begin Friday evening with registration from 6-9 p.m. and continuing Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. There will be breakfast both Saturday and Sunday mornings with the parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. Activities continue all day including a roast beef supper from 5-7 p.m. and finishing off with a dance and fireworks in the evening.

The weekend of July 16-17 is usually the weekend of the Rumsey ball tournament. Maybe someone would call me with the details of the weekend.
