Doan brothers on Mantracker

Many from the community tuned in Sunday evening to watch Mantracker, an adventure TV show that featured Shane and Brook Doan trying to outwit fellow Albertan, Terry Grant and his partner. Grant is a veteran cowboy and expert outdoorsman who is trained to track missing persons in the bush. He spent 25 years with Alberta Foothills Search & Rescue.

The brothers spent 36 hours and traveled 40 km, somewhere north of Whistler, BC. It was like a very rough and tough game of hide and seek - team Tracker vs team Doan - with the local boys winning the race.

A small representation from the Elk lodges, Stettler, Castor, Hanna, and Halkirk met on Saturday afternoon in the hall for the Elks’ spring district meeting. In attendance was provincial president, Larry Zeisman, second vice-president John Christie and district deputy, Dale Kent.

Several junior high badminton players represented Mother Teresa school at a tournament in Vermillion this week. Simon Muncy and Wyatt Kent were pleased to bring home a silver medal.

Leonie Plouvier, who celebrated her 90 birthday in January, passed away at the weekend in Coronation. Leonie is a first cousin to Mary Stewart and we extend sympathies to the Stewart, Hronek, Plouvier and Lattery families.

Special birthday greetings go out to Gordie Cordel, who reached the BIG 65 and was treated to a surprise BBQ at Aaron and Tasha’s place in the Ponoka area on Saturday.

April 10 wrapped up the junior rodeo series at the Sounding Lake arena east of Consort. Local competitors Madelyn, Mikenna and Owen Schauer did very well. Mikenna placed sixth overall junior high point winning a trophy frame. Madelyn was runner up champion in breakaway roping, poles and barrels and champion in goat tying and keyhole and was presented with a trophy buckle for overall junior high point.

Some relatives of Amy Bates bought a photo album and inside were several pictures from Halkirk. Some were of a parade taken in 1985. If by chance, you might think they are yours, give Amy a call at 742-6320.

Mary Stewart attended a baby shower for her great-granddaughter, Cassidy in Stettler on Tuesday.

April 22 is Earth Day, but we’ll have to let the snow melt before we can do an outdoor clean-up.
