BYEMOOR/ENDIANG NEWS -- The tragic death of RCMP Constable Sarah Beckett, killed in the line of duty in Langford, B.C. last Tuesday has touched close to home to the Endiang – Byemoor community.

Sarah and her parents Bob and Gurcharn Beckett and her older sister Shannon lived in Endiang for a short time in about 1989-1990. The two girls went to school in Byemoor.

The Becketts are cousins of Rick Laak and good friends of the Hayden family. We extend our sympathy to those families in their shocking loss.

Constable Beckett, 32 years old, was a popular 11 year veteran with the RCMP force and worked her entire career on Vancouver Island.

Sarah leaves behind, her husband Brad and two young sons, aged five and two.

Remember all the events coming up this weekend:

April 15 — Byemoor Bull-a-rama. Doors open at 6 p.m. with trade show, bull bustin' and dance. Steak barbeque at the Hotel from 4 – 7:30 p.m.

April 16 — Charlie Ewing and The Queen's Cowboys entertaining with western music and cowboy poetry at the Endiang Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show at 7 p.m.

April 17 — The Joyful Melody Trio, gospel music group, entertain at the Scapa Hall at 2 p.m. Tickets available from Thelma 403-854-2393 or Peggy 403-854-4672.

We send get well wishes to Verla Buchwitz who has been hospitalized. We hope you are feeling well soon, Verla.

We welcome Tim Costello of New Zealand back to our community. Tim works for Rod Jack Fencing and also is a saddle bronc competitor in Canadian rodeos during the summer.

The ladies had a successful evening at the Endmoor Drop-in Centre crib meet on Tuesday. Bernice Clausen posted the top score, while Vi McCarty came in second.

Grade 5 – 9 students from the Byemoor School along with teacher Mrs. Mandi Rietmann were at Erskine School on Friday for Math Olympiad. Rosemary Stulberg was the bus driver.

Some folks from our community, including a group from the Endmoor Drop-in Centre, enjoyed the Stage Hanna presentation "What the Bellhop Saw" at the Hanna Community Centre.

Dale and Dee Green along with Bob and Eileen Green attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Eileen's brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Jean Wagner, in Calgary on the weekend.

A number of ladies gathered at the home of Miles and Lynne Jones on Sunday afternoon for a baby shower for Jasmine Jones, wee daughter of Justin and Kristina Jones.

We send birthday greetings to a former Endiang resident, Dr. Neil Webber of Calgary, who celebrates his 80th birthday on April 17. Neil grew up on a farm east of Endiang where Jim and Maureen Wasdal live today. He was a longtime MLA in the Alberta government and founded the Webber Academy, a prestigious private school in Calgary.

Mark your calendars for the Mother's Day pancake breakfast at the Endiang Hall on May 8 from 9 a.m. – noon.
