Dance studio holds spring festival

JD’s Academy of Dance presented their 13th annual Spring Festival at the Performing Arts Centre in Stettler on Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1.

A large crowd was on hand to show appreciation to the dancers from Ms Jamie’s studios in Halkirk and Stettler as they showcased their talents at the grand finale.

Sympathy is extended to Derek and Heidi Malloy and family on the passing of Heidi’s mom, June, in Nova Scotia this week.

Congratulations to Robert Rendall Jr. and Katie Laverty, who were married on Saturday at the Missionary Church in Castor. Maureen Waade from Duncan, BC, Bill and Peggy Tomlinson and their kids Sandra, Darren, Heather and families were all able to attend.

A large crowd of family and friends gathered in the Legion Hall in Stettler on Sunday afternoon to help Vera Airey celebrate her 90th birthday with cake and all the trimmings. Clarence, Bill, Maureen, Roxene, Clari, Linda and Loren along with most of the 50 plus immediate family members were able to be present. Have a great year Vera.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Melody Kent who celebrated her 60th birthday with a surprise party at the senior center on Sunday. Family and friends were on hand to help her celebrate.

Several local students participated in the Stettler and District Music Festival last week. Karen Norman’s piano students competing were Wyatt Kent, Jillian Schaffner ( scholarship winner), Katelyn Dahmer and Natalie Schilling, who all received very good marks. Jillian Schaffner won a voice scholarship and sang with the Gracenotes. JD’s Academy of Dance also had several dancers competing. Congratulations to all of the competitors.

A floor curling funspiel was held on Saturday in Botha. People attending from Halkirk and area were Anne Neilson, Shirley Brodersen, Dora Morasch, Ann Mulfred, Jacquie and Paul Dietrich, and Irene Schilling.

Dale and Sheryl Darnel attended the Randy Travis show at the River Cree casino outside of Edmonton this weekend. Dale had won the trip at the Halkirk Elks fun casino nite.

Anne Neilson returned from a holiday visiting with her son Mike Neilson in Burnaby and Brenda Hagerty from Langley B.C.

Wyatt Kent and Shane Neilson were among the cadets that spent a weekend with the cadets at Athabasca.

Irene Schilling and Dale Nichols along with Ida and Gib Hallett and Kenny Schilling attended the funeral of cousin Ethel Olsen from Cereal.

Brian Kent spent his spring break with his grandma and grandpa, Mel and Dale Kent.

Ross and Dawn Elsasser accompanied Shelley and Noel Leach on a weeks holiday in the Mexican Riviera. They had a wonderful time though the weather is pretty hot at this time of year.
