County awards night well attended

So...March came in like a lamb but next day looked more like a lion.

GADSBY/WESTWOODS

So...March came in like a lamb but next day looked more like a lion.

Happy anniversary to Smitty and Lavonne Smith, who celebrated 45 years on Saturday night. They were among the huge crowd at Westwoods Agri Center for the 38th annual Community Service Awards. Approximately 140 people were in attendance. They enjoyed a lovely roast beef supper and were entertained by Chloe Shingoose. Congratulations to recipients; Judy Dinsmore, John and Caroline Shofer, and Botha UCW.

The Big Knife 4H Beef Club held their public speaking and presentations on March 1. Charlee, Keyonna and Shayla Derr along with Junae and Joseph Ventnor will be going to district presentations on March 4 at Erskine. Grace and Laura Hebbes, Tori and Shayna Brower and Chase and Catherine Doliver will be going to district public speaking March 11 at Erskine. Congratulations to all participants.

Fred and Velvet Entwisle drove to Calgary Foothills Hospital (Tom Baker Transplant area) to visit brother-in-law Joey Prillar, who is recovering from a very successful kidney transplant. Way to go, Joey.

Word has come of the passing of George Swan. George grew up in the Westwoods (Willow Park) district, residing outside Gadsby, and later Stettler before leaving the area. Sincere sympathies to his family, as well as his sisters Laura (Swan) Blumhagen and Martha (Swan) McKay. George was 96.

The community is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Julius Duris in Stettler Hospital. Julius was born and raised north of Gadsby, took most of his schooling in Gadsby and farmed along with his parents, taking over at their passing. Julius married DeLores 36 years ago, they lived on the family farm for many of those years, retiring to Stettler where they were active in the community there. Julius was 82.

We send community sympathies to DeLores and daughter Barb. The funeral is tentatively set for Friday, 2 p.m. at the Stettler United Church.

Bill and Joyce Hansel had a busy weekend motoring to Stettler, Big Valley and finally on Sunday to Byemoor to take in Ray Musgrove’s hockey game. Joyce found time to bake a cake; Bill and Joyce headed over to Frank and Eleanor Dahlgren’s to help Frank celebrate his birthday. On Saturday night, Darcy, Tammy, Kayla and Luke Hronek brought chicken and birthday cake for Frank. Happy birthday, Frank.
