Community mourns passing of ‘inseparable’ Edwards couple

.

RUMSEY

Some folks would say, “Just in time.” The annoying rain in the past week took the harvesters out of the fields for a much-needed rest, but such a break isn’t really wanted at this time.

Last Wednesday, several folks from the area travelled to Medicine Hat to attend the funeral memorial for Gerry Gogol. Sympathies to his family, as they all live in the area — his sisters Lucille Hampton and Sharon Bremmer of Rowley and brother Leon here at Rumsey. Gerry’s niece, Karli Gogol, gave a tribute to her uncle at the service. Well done, Karli.

Word has been received of the passing of Clara Montgomery of Morrin and, more recently, the acute-care unit in the Drumheller hospital. Clara passed away last Thursday and her funeral services were set for Tuesday in the Morrin Community Hall.

The community was saddened to learn of the passing of Johnny Edwards of the Rowley area, and more recently of Drumheller, on Monday (Oct. 3). It was further saddened to hear about the passing of his wife Lavinia last Thursday (Oct. 6).

Hearts are heavy for the family — Lynn, Jo, Kim and Glen. Funeral service is set for Saturday in the Rumsey Community Hall. Johnny and Lavinia were inseparable during their lives together and now have the privilege of sharing their funeral service.

Congratulations to the Hatt family on the birth of baby Jaiden Erick, born Sept. 29 in the Drumheller hospital to Michael and Anabel Hatt. A healthy baby boy weighing eight pounds and six ounces at birth, he has a great start to his life with his two big brothers, Bon-bon and Eman. Proud grandparents are Elsie and Erick Hatt, and Anabel’s mother Virginia in the Philippines.

Michael and Anabel would like to thank everyone for the monetary gift from the community in honour of their marriage more than a year ago. Anabel just arrived in Canada this summer. Welcome to the community.

We have so much to be thankful for as we reflect on Thanksgiving weekend.

The next Morrin United Church service will be held Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Morrin United Church. Jerry Beskowine and his wife Judy will be leading the service.

Next Monday is the October birthday party at St. Mary’s Health Care Centre in Trochu. Lois Kiemele will be the hostess that day. Plan to come and help out and enjoy the afternoon visiting.

Here are the dates of the surrounding fall suppers: Sunday, Oct. 16, Big Valley; Thursday, Oct. 27, Munson; Sunday, Oct. 30, Handhills; and Saturday, Nov. 5, Rumsey.

Remember the time change is Saturday, Nov. 6.
