CKCS' prayers go to Fort McMurray

On May 2, CKCS kicked off Mental Health Week by wearing green. In the past, people who were labelled as 'insane' were identified by wearing green ribbons. Students wanted to turn that label on its head and show their support towards Mental Health Wellness. With all students and staff sporting the colour, they demonstrated that everyone should be aware of the seriousness of mental health, and that there should be no stereotypes, stigmas, or judgements attached to it.

On Wednesday, students continued their support by wearing hats for "Hats on for Mental Health" Day. CKCS sported various types of hats in support of the event. Throughout the week, classes participated in many activities that talked about the importance of taking care of their mental well being, and strategies to use when stressed, anxious, and how to cope with the challenges of everyday life.

Also taking precedence in classroom discussions last week was the devastating fire in Fort McMurray. Many classes stayed attuned with news reports and the events throughout the day. The student body started a "Prayer Wall" in the foyer, where students and staff anonymously displayed their thoughts and prayers for everyone who has been affected by the tragedy. Also in support, the kindergarten class sold lemonade outside the school on Tuesday, May 10. All proceeds raised are to be donated to help the struggling families of Fort McMurray.

This week, our Grade 6 and 9 students begin their first provincial achievement tests. As well, CKCS will be walking to Christ-King Catholic Church for our monthly mass on Wednesday, May 11. On Friday, May 13, Spirit Squad will be hosting an 80s Day as their next spirit day.
